Busan tonkatsu second branch, first visit for meat curry: Hets Jeonpo

In short

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of a main-road building in Busanjin, Busan, and the second location after the Gwangan branch. A regular at the Gwangan branch came with a friend for a late dinner and ordered YBD hire katsu, YBD loin katsu, meat curry and oolong tea, and rated the kkakdugi and salad sauce just as highly. With bar seating full of solo diners and a CatchTable kiosk outside for waiting, Hets Jeonpo is an easy stop for tonkatsu in Jeonpo.

First photo of the tonkatsu meal at Hets Jeonpo Branch

Hi everyone!!!

I visited Hets, personally my favorite tonkatsu place in Busan!!! Their Jeonpo branch, that is. I first got into Hets through the Gwangan branch, and even after trying all the famous tonkatsu spots in Busan, Hets still comes out on top lol. When I heard they opened a second location in Jeonpo, I'd been meaning to check it out, and I finally made it this time. So excited.

Where Hets Jeonpo Branch is and what the space feels like

Hets Jeonpo Branch isn't tucked into the Jeonpo-dong alleyways — it's right on the main road. You know the Jeonpo-dong alley area, right? I assumed it'd be in there, but it's actually on the big street!!! That made it even better, super easy to find lol.

The Gwangan branch was pretty small, but the Jeonpo branch is huge. A different charm from Gwangan~^^

Menu placed at every seat in Hets Jeonpo Branch

What we ordered at Hets Jeonpo: YBD hire katsu, loin katsu and meat curry

At Hets Jeonpo Branch, each seat has its own menu propped up front. I ordered YBD hire, loin, meat curry, oolong tea, and a zero-sugar cola. If you go to Hets, the meat curry is a must lol. It's genuinely good enough that you could go just for the curry alone, seriously TT

Basic setup with kkakdugi and salad

The basic setup~~ The kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) is genuinely delicious too lol. Not sure if they make it in-house, but it's totally my taste lol.

Tonkatsu sauce and salad sauce set out at every seat

Sauces are set out at every seat too. For reference, I have no idea what's in that salad sauce, but it's the best salad sauce I've ever had lol. If you visit Hets, pour it on generously, it's seriously amazing. My friend said the exact same thing about it!!

The default water served at Hets Jeonpo Branch, not plain water

And the water!!! Not plain water lol. That made it even better.

Bottled oolong tea and zero-sugar cola on the table

The drinks came out first so I snapped a photo. I expected the oolong tea to come in a regular cup, but it was in a bottle, which felt oddly like being in Japan lol. Is this oolong tea some famous brand or something? First time trying it, and it was so good I nearly downed the whole thing in one go.

Meat curry, rice, and miso soup served first

Meat curry and soup arrive first

At Hets Jeonpo Branch, the meat curry and rice came out first along with the miso soup that's included by default. My heart was racing. It had been a while since I'd had Hets, plus it was a slightly late dinner, so I basically wanted to pour it straight into my mouth. Even the smell was incredible.

The miso soup has a bit of a spicy kick to it, and I actually prefer it that way. Plain miso soup just... isn't really my style lol.

YBD hire katsu vs loin katsu: how the two compare

YBD hire katsu!! The visuals are amazing, right? It comes plated so cleanly, and the taste is top-notch too... whew. My friend and I swapped a piece each to try. Honestly both were so good I could've ordered the combo instead. Next time I'll get the combo lol.

A piece of katsu with mustard and tonkatsu sauce

A little mustard plus tonkatsu sauce in one bite lol. Absolute paradise. The meat is so tender and delicious.

Hets meat curry mixed into rice

Finally, a bite of the meat curry too~ I love curry so I just dumped my rice straight into it, but since everyone's taste differs, I'd recommend pouring the curry over the rice little by little and adjusting the seasoning to your liking~~ It's so good eaten together with the kkakdugi side dish. You know how a familiar flavor hits even harder lol.

A bitten cross-section of the loin katsu

A bite of the loin too~~ I usually only eat lean cuts of any meat, so I tend to prefer hire, but Hets's loin is genuinely delicious too... I don't usually like fat, but it's so tender and savory here that I kept wanting more. Total taste conversion lol.

Is Hets Jeonpo good for solo dining? Bar seats and CatchTable waiting

Hets Jeonpo Branch has bar seating, so it's great for solo dining, and you can even watch the staff make the tonkatsu while you eat. There were actually a lot of solo diners there!!! Watching them keep the kitchen tidy while cooking just built even more trust lol, I'm sold.

CatchTable waiting kiosk placed outside the store

Oh!! There's a CatchTable kiosk outside so you can join the waitlist too haha.

Final verdict on Hets Jeonpo Branch

My memories from the Gwangan branch were so good that I brought a friend to the Jeonpo branch, and it was just as delicious, still holding strong. I feel like I'll be back to Hets Jeonpo Branch often... I really do love Hets. Officially recognized as a top tonkatsu spot near Jeonpo Station... honestly just a top tonkatsu spot in Busan period.

Even though I went on a slightly late evening, it was still packed with people. A proven favorite really is a proven favorite... If you love tonkatsu, Hets is a must. Highly recommend~~~^^👍👍👍
