Today I wanted a meal that felt both light on the stomach and satisfying, so I went to Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch.

When you hear seaweed soup (미역국), you probably think of something simple you'd make at home, but Haenon Miyeok was on a whole different level haha☺️ Rich, clean broth — this was clearly a proper restorative meal!! Let me introduce it right away, let's go~~

Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch is open Monday through Sunday from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, and last order at 19:45. It's a seaweed soup set-meal specialist in Munwon-dong, Gwacheon, on Araetbaeraengi-ro, and the Gwacheon branch is company-operated.

One of the things I liked most about the visit was the free parking! Nice and spacious, right??😎 When our family eats out in Gwacheon we usually drive, so not having to worry about parking was a relief. With warm, clean Korean food on offer, this place would suit anyone in Munwon-dong, Gwacheon looking for a spot for a family gathering or a meal with parents.

How much does a seaweed soup set cost at Haenon Miyeok?

Haenon Miyeok had way more seaweed soup varieties than I expected. Boneless flounder, scallop, mussel, and pollack sets are ₩19,000, beef ₩20,000, Tongyeong oyster ₩25,000, and abalone-scallop ₩26,000.

There are also side dishes like the Haenon beef bulgogi set, butter-grilled abalone, and seasoned flounder. If you want more abalone in your soup, you can add 2 extra pieces for ₩7,000.

And what caught my eye at Haenon Miyeok was the birthday event! 🎂 Guests dining in on their birthday, and pregnant guests, get a free piece of abalone added to their soup. Birthday guests need ID, and pregnant guests need a maternity booklet or pregnancy confirmation document, so keep that in mind.👍

There's also an event offering a cake to birthday guests dining in groups of 4 or more via Naver Reservation. You need to be within 7 days of your registered birthday, and reservations must be made at least a day ahead so they can prepare the cake😎 If you're planning a family birthday meal, it's worth checking in advance haha.

We booked through Naver Reservation before visiting and got a shrimp fritter as a bonus.🍤 If you're going to visit anyway, I'd recommend checking the Naver Reservation page for any available coupons or events before booking rather than just showing up. (Make sure to check the event period!!😎) These little perks make the meal even more enjoyable haha.

Abalone-scallop vs beef seaweed soup: which set was better?

What we ordered was the abalone-scallop seaweed soup and the beef seaweed soup🤭

First, the abalone-scallop seaweed soup! Being a seafood-based version, it definitely felt hearty, and with abalone and scallop in it, it felt a bit more special than the seaweed soup you'd have at home.

The color of the broth was really different from other seaweed soup specialists!! It was so rich, tasted healthy like a proper restorative dish. And of course, it tasted amazing too😍 If you like seafood, I think this menu would personally catch your eye more.

(Durudu's pick😄) And the beef seaweed soup — as expected, the most familiar and comforting flavor! It's the kind of dish everyone can enjoy regardless of age or preference, so it seems like a good choice for a visit with kids or a meal with parents.

Even though it's the same seaweed soup, the seafood and beef versions each have their own charm, so ordering one of each and sharing them like we did is a good idea too.🤓 The richly simmered beef and the nutty perilla flavor were fantastic (Captain Jjapjjap's pick🙃 — writing this blog post is making my mouth water again..🥲

Is Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon worth a family meal? Final verdict

Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch felt less like a place for a single bowl of seaweed soup and more like a full Korean set-meal restaurant built around seaweed soup as the main dish. With options like abalone, scallop, beef, flounder, and oyster, it was great for a family visit where everyone can pick their own favorite. And the banchan that came with it — especially the grilled flounder, which was extra delicious!! — every single dish was well made, a genuinely thoughtful spread@@

The abalone-scallop and beef seaweed soups we had each had their own appeal and were both satisfying, and we thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp fritter we got through Naver Reservation too haha.
