Hwajeong Station Japanese restaurant salmon bowl set: Min Cook Dasima

In short

Min Cook Dasima is a 25-year-old Japanese restaurant certified as a Korean "100-year store," on the second floor across from E-mart by Hwajeong Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the sake-don (salmon rice bowl) set meal and added a Korean pork (Handon) sirloin cutlet and three pieces of aged flounder sushi: the salmon was thick with no fishy taste, and the cutlet was crisp outside and juicy inside, served with cabbage in fruit sauce. Ordered as a set meal, it also comes with egg porridge, tempura and clear soup, making it a generous lunch near Hwajeong Station.

Apple Cookie here ~ 🍎🍪 I had somewhere to be today, and since it's been a while since I ate out, I went looking for a Hwajeong restaurant and found this place. It's a Japanese restaurant that's held its spot in Hwajeong for a whopping 25 years. It's even got the "Hundred-Year Store" title.

Where is Min Cook Dasima, and where do you park?

Exterior of Min Cook Dasima on the 2nd floor of a building across from Hwajeong E-mart

Min Cook Dasima is located across from the Hwajeong E-mart, and you can see the shop on the 2nd floor. Since the 1st and 2nd floor shops have similar names, I guess it's the same owner!

If you park at E-mart, you get 1 hour supported. We were 1 minute over... and paid an extra ₩1,000 fee🥲

Information sign at the 2nd floor entrance of Min Cook Dasima

At the 2nd floor entrance, there are phrases that make you feel their pride in taste and ingredients. There are three rice principles too, and apparently they only make sushi for 100 servings a day.

Blue Ribbon award marker at the restaurant entrance

Goyang Pay and government subsidies are accepted too. It's a restaurant that received the Blue Ribbon award in 2024 and 2025. Seems like there's a waitlist sometimes. I got in right away, lucky me 👍

Inside Min Cook Dasima: seating and how to order by QR code

Spacious hall seating at Min Cook Dasima
Interior with 2-person tables and large group tables

The restaurant was bigger than I expected? They have everything from 2-person tables to large group tables, so it seems great for couples, friends, or families to visit😆

Small plates and forks by the self-serve bar near the window decor

At the self-serve bar you can grab whatever you need — small plates, forks, and so on. Isn't the view outside so pretty?! The little decor pieces were so cute I had to take a photo💜

QR code ordering instructions on the table

You can check the menu by scanning a QR code. You order through this and pay when you leave — a post-payment system. There were a lot of menu items, but looking at it via QR made it convenient.

What we ordered: salmon bowl set meal, Korean pork cutlet and flounder sushi

  • Sake-don set meal
  • Korean pork sirloin cutlet
  • Aged flounder sushi (3 pcs)
  • Zero-sugar cola

As an appetizer, egg porridge. It kept going down with a savory oil smell! It's been a while since I had this, and it was delicious😍

Table setting with sake-don set meal and pork cutlet together

Oh, I was surprised by how good the quality was!! The cutlet quality was really good too 👍 I really made the right call ordering the set meal, hahaha

The sake-don salmon bowl: thick slices with no fishy taste

Sake-don topped with thickly sliced salmon

They cut the salmon into big chunks, and it had zero fishy taste — the more you chewed, the more savory it got 👍 the salmon quality was high.

Egg pudding served alongside the sake-don

Can you see how thick the salmon is?! There was also an egg pudding? That was soft too and just slid right down, hahaha

Korean pork (Handon) sirloin cutlet and three pieces of aged flounder sushi

Crispy fried Korean pork sirloin cutlet

Crispy outside, juicy inside, no pork smell at all, it was delicious. It paired perfectly with the sauce too 👍

Three pieces of aged flounder sushi

The sushi tastes different from other places. It's definitely free of that fishy taste and has a savory depth. The quality was clearly different 😆

The set meal sides: cabbage in fruit sauce, clear soup and tempura

Cabbage salad topped with fruit sauce
A bowl of savory miso-style soup

They put fruit sauce on top of the cabbage and this was genuinely delicious 👍 It didn't taste like a store-bought sauce. I honestly wanted to ask for the recipe, hahaha. The soup was savory and hit the spot too😍

Assorted tempura with sweet pumpkin and shrimp
Close-up of crispy tempura batter

The tempura had sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and okra? I think. The batter outside was extremely crispy, so the texture was great 👍 I think it tasted even better because it was warm, hahaha
