Spicy beef rice noodle soup at Soi Nana, a Seongsu Thai restaurant

In short

Soi Nana is a Thai restaurant near Exit 2 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul, where rattan lamps and palm-leaf parasols give the room the feel of a local eatery in Thailand. Catching up with an old friend, the writer ordered the beef shank rice noodle soup made spicy with extra coriander, plus pu pad pong curry with soft-shell crab. Between the window seat and the open kitchen, Soi Nana delivered on both the food and the mood.

I wanted something special to eat with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. So I went looking, and found this place. A Thai food spot in Seongsu with an atmosphere so exotic it felt like I'd actually landed in Thailand — 'Soi Nana.' Here's my honest review, and it exceeded my expectations!!

What the room at Soi Nana looks like

Being close to Seongsu Station made it easy to get to, and building parking was convenient too. The moment I stepped inside, the rattan lighting and palm-leaf parasols gave me the illusion of actually being on a trip to Thailand. Sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, exotic interior — the atmosphere alone already made it feel like a great restaurant. Good stuff!!

The two dishes we ordered at Soi Nana

Among Soi Nana's many Thai dishes, we ordered the two most representative ones.

  • Beef shank pho (spicy)
  • Pu pad pong curry

Beef shank rice noodle soup, ordered spicy

A basic pho, but changed to spicy with extra coriander added on top. Deep, rich broth with tender beef shank and rice noodles. Add the spiciness and the coriander's aroma on top of that, and it really woke up my appetite.

Pu pad pong curry with soft-shell crab

Tender soft-shell crab, fried and then stir-fried together with a sweet, savory coconut cream curry. The combination of crispy fried crab and smooth curry was great.

Is Soi Nana Seongsu worth a visit?

'Soi Nana' was a Thai restaurant where both the taste and the atmosphere were perfect. Every single dish carried an authentic local flavor, and the exotic atmosphere let me really soak in the feeling of a trip to Thailand. Next time I want to try the good-value set menus or some of the other curries. If you're looking for a special date or gathering spot in Seongsu-dong, I'd recommend Soi Nana Seongsu.

Tips before you go to Soi Nana

Sitting by the window, there was a nice breeze and exotic music playing, which made the atmosphere even better. Because it's an open kitchen, you can watch the cooking happen right in front of you, which built a lot of trust. Plenty of couples on dates and friends catching up too — a lively atmosphere all around.
