How many broths can you choose at Tongkeun Shabu?

You can pick 2 broths for your shabu-shabu. Living up to its reputation as a Yeosu shabu-shabu favorite, Tongkeun Shabu's broths are handmade, simmered with care in-house.

Tongkeun Shabu offers 4 broth options: basic, refreshing and clean chicken bone broth, sweet and rich sukiyaki, and fragrant, spicy mala. Since we came with kids, we picked basic and mala.

The meat options are pork neck and beef brisket, both all-you-can-eat. On top of that, there's a salad bar full of homemade dishes, kalguksu noodles and porridge, and dessert — a full course at #YeosuTongkeunShabu 👍👍👍

What is on the salad bar at Tongkeun Shabu?

The salad bar at Tongkeun Shabu is divided into a fresh zone, a rice-paper-wrap-and-dessert zone, a salad zone, a Japanese zone, a fried/grilled/stir-fry zone, and a dessert zone. There are also various shabu-shabu sauces so you can mix your own to taste. Let's take a look around the buffet~

The fresh zone is packed with fresh vegetables and mushrooms — napa cabbage, bean sprouts, bok choy, enoki mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, and more — all great to toss into the shabu-shabu!

The rice-paper-wrap-and-dessert zone has cucumber, carrot, onion, and pineapple to wrap in rice paper, and after finishing your meal, there's kalguksu noodles, dumplings, and porridge you can make in the rich, reduced broth left over.

The salad zone is perfect for an appetizer — fruit salad, Cajun chicken salad, green salad, and more.

The Japanese zone has various sushi and rolls. There's gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and rolled sushi, and it was nicely arranged.

The fried/grilled/stir-fry zone was loaded — various pastas, yaki udon, bulgogi, smoked duck, spicy stir-fried chicken feet, steak, pizza, fried rice, chicken, and freshly fried crispy fritters!

The sweet dessert zone comes after the meal — various fruits, chocolate fondue, and even ice cream, which the kids loved the most haha.

There's also cold soda, pomegranate juice, and plum juice, so you can drink as much as you like. Plus warm soup, cold naengmyeon, and you can even make your own dessert porridge!

How did the house-made broth and the meat taste?

Maybe because it's handmade, the broth at Tongkeun Shabu had a rich, refreshing, deep flavor that stood out. As you cook the beef in it, the juices come out, adding a nutty flavor — it was so delicious~😍

On top of that, the meat was so tender, and the more you chewed, the more the juices burst out! No gamey smell at all, so tasty 🩷 The broth was hot and rich and refreshing, really hit the spot, and paired with the various buffet dishes it also worked great as a drinking snack.

The hanwoo beef from the review event

If you take part in Tongkeun Shabu's review event, they give you an extra serving of hanwoo (Korean beef)! It looked great, was so tender, and the juices were amazing~

I also tried some of the buffet dishes, and since they're all made in-house, each one had a rich flavor, and it was nice that they came out in small portions frequently. It felt clean and tidy overall.

Is Tongkeun Shabu easy with two young kids?

We were with two kids, aged 3 and 5, and since Tongkeun Shabu has such a varied menu, they were able to pick and choose according to their own tastes and eat well all around 👧🏻 They ate neatly and even made their own dessert porridge!

With their favorite ice cream for dessert on top of everything, both the parents and the kids left satisfied. If you're visiting Yeosu, dining with kids, or looking for a great-value restaurant in Yeosu, I recommend Tongkeun Shabu 💜
