Daegu izakaya with egg skewers and grapefruit highballs: Toriaejeu

I went to Toriaejeu, a bar with great vibes for a second round in Sangin-dong, Daegu. It's a place I drop by often, whether for a second round or just a casual drink. They have lots of tasty skewer options, so if you're looking for a bar in Sangin-dong, I really want to recommend this one.

Where is Toriaejeu in Sangin-dong, and how long is the wait?

Toriaejeu, a bar in Sangin-dong, is a 5-minute walk from the Sangin Station exit, so it's pretty accessible. For parking, you can use the nearby Lotte Cinema lot or park in the alleys nearby! Also, on Friday and Saturday evenings after 8pm there's always a wait — it's that kind of hot spot. Using Naver Reservation or joining the Tabling remote waitlist makes things much easier.

From September 13 to 23, they're running a free corkage event! Having a drink at this great-atmosphere bar in Sangin-dong sounded really nice.

Counter seats and tables: inside Toriaejeu

The interior was cozy with a strong Japanese-style atmosphere. There was a dachi counter space for about 4 pairs of 2, and inside there were also tables for 3–4 people, which was convenient!

The table seating let you enjoy things a bit more quietly. It was full of Japanese atmosphere, which I really liked.

How do you order skewers at Toriaejeu?

On my first visit, I looked at the menu board and just wrote down the dish names without choosing a flavor, haha 🥹. It's an order-by-memo-pad system: you write down the skewer dish you want, then choose a flavor and mark it with a symbol! Depending on your taste, you could try salt-grilled, spicy-grilled, or teriyaki sauce, which was nice. (Some menu items have a fixed flavor, so check the menu board photo for reference!)

Being a proper Sangin-dong bar, the drink selection was diverse too — they have lots of highball varieties at decent prices, so I ordered highballs. Corkage is ₩10,000 for wine and sake, and ₩20,000 for liquor 35% ABV or higher.

They grill the skewers you order right away, and the visuals were so mouthwatering,,! Watching it happen right in front of you made it feel more hygienic, and the cozy atmosphere at this Sangin-dong bar, Toriaejeu, was so warm and inviting.

The skewers and highballs we ordered

Cabbage comes out as the basic side dish. I ordered grapefruit and lemon highballs, and the ratio was just perfect — there's a reason they're called the highball spot of Sangin-dong, haha.

We started our food journey with pork skin skewers. The pork skin comes fixed with spicy sauce — it wasn't too spicy, just nicely piquant, with none of the characteristic smell, and it was so chewy and delicious.

There were so many tasty-looking menu items. We had grilled tomato, whole pork belly skewer, whole thigh meat skewer, and grilled corn, and honestly these paired amazingly with the highballs.

And personally, while all the meat skewers were delicious, I really want you to try the grilled egg skewer. I thought it would just taste like a regular egg, but after trying it once it became a must-order menu item every time I come to Toriaejeu. It was sweet and really delicious.

The negima, grilled with green onion, was also light and delicious! We chose one with teriyaki sauce and one salt-grilled, and even though it's the same dish, the different sauce flavors made it even more enjoyable.

With such a diverse lineup of skewers and the ability to choose your sauce, this was a place we could enjoy in a fresh way. If you're looking for a good bar for a second round in Sangin-dong, I'd recommend Toriaejeu, a top yakitori spot in Daegu :)
