Where is Gwacheon Haesintang, and where can you park?

It's been such a brutally hot summer that I really felt the need for a body-recovery meal, so I went with my husband and mom to a Gwacheon spot known for exactly that — Gwacheon Haesintang! This Government Gwacheon Complex Station restaurant is just a 4-minute walk from Exit 1, on the 2nd floor of the Jeil Sangga building. It's also a great stop after hiking Gwanaksan or Cheonggyesan, or after a trip to Seoul Land ‼️

You can park at nearby public lots — there are plenty within walking distance. The closest ones are 🚗 Jungsin Church public lot and 🚗 Gwacheon Parking Building. I'd recommend Gwacheon Parking Building since it has more spaces! Weekdays after 7pm, parking is free, and the restaurant can cover part of the fee too, so ask when you arrive.

Once you get up to the 2nd floor, you're greeted with an exterior that has a strong hanok (traditional Korean house) feel!

Gwacheon Haesintang Gwacheon Main Branch has three rooms that each seat 8, and the doors between rooms can open up to form one connecting space — perfect for large group gatherings or company dinners. Rooms are available for parties of 6 or more.

The interior was quite spacious with the comfortable feel of a Korean restaurant. With plenty of joined tables plus three separate rooms, this is a great spot for a Government Gwacheon Complex Station family gathering, group dinner, or wedding pre-party gathering in Gwacheon ‼️ The interior was also very clean.

For anyone wanting a private meal for a family gathering, company dinner, group meeting, or wedding pre-party, having rooms like this available is such a plus.

This is a separate fish tank in the kitchen that the owner showed us 🤍 Even the octopus is the pricier wild Gangwon-do variety, apparently ‼️ Abalone, octopus, and every other kind of seafood was seriously fresh across the board. At this Government Gwacheon Complex Station restaurant, they only use live seafood, which seems to make the hot pot and other seafood dishes taste even better.

Ginseng chicken and octopus haesintang for two, 59,000 won: how much food is it?

The banchan (side dishes) included salad, steamed egg, seasoned bean sprouts, seasoned cordyceps, napa cabbage kimchi, and pickles — and honestly the side dishes alone smelled like a real hidden gem 👃 Even the kimchi is made with cordyceps, and apparently all the red pepper flakes are domestic.

Ginseng chicken octopus hot pot for two (₩59,000)

This much for two people?! The portion was genuinely massive. Shrimp, scallops, razor clams, live abalone — all kinds of fresh seafood were generously packed in, and the octopus hadn't even been added yet at this point!

Cordyceps sits on top of the hot pot, and apparently the broth itself is deeply brewed with plenty of cordyceps too. In terms of both flavor and nutrition, it's basically a tonic in a bowl 🤍

Once the water starts to lightly boil, a staff member comes over and adds live octopus. Both the octopus and abalone are alive, just peak freshness 👍 Beyond freshness, the octopus and abalone were also large and just overall high quality — very satisfying.

Once the seafood is cooked enough, a staff member comes back to cut everything up for easy eating. The timing was perfect, so nothing was chewy! The clams were clean-tasting and the octopus, despite being so plump, was incredibly tender 🤍

There's also a variety of vegetables in there — napa cabbage, minari (water celery), white wood ear mushroom — so a gentle sweetness kept coming through, and the texture of the white wood ear mushroom in particular was excellent.

After eating through the seafood on top, the chicken underneath appears! The chicken was large and the meat incredibly tender. A broth simmered with tons of cordyceps, then loaded with all that seafood and chicken on top... it's genuinely concentrated, and drinking that broth really felt like proper body recovery.

Porridge add-on (₩3,000)

Not adding kalguksu noodles or porridge to that deeply reduced broth would honestly be a crime, a crime.. (noodles are also available to order!)

Octopus plus two whole abalones on top, all for ₩15,000 — such great value for the price! This would also make a great lunch option for office workers.

Not just one but two whole abalones on top meant a generous portion. The octopus wasn't chewy at all — tender, with just enough bite, and it paired really well with the fluffy cauldron rice.

The abalone octopus cauldron rice comes with bean sprouts, dried seaweed flakes, and soy sauce for mixing in.

The cauldron rice is delicious on its own, but mixing in the bean sprouts, seaweed flakes, and a touch of soy sauce added a nutty, savory-salty flavor that made it even better. And finishing off with the crispy scorched rice at the bottom made for a really filling meal — dessert basically included ‼️

This Government Gwacheon Complex Station restaurant has a spacious interior plus private rooms, making it a good Gwacheon restaurant with rooms for group gatherings or company dinners. With a range of seafood dishes like hot pot and yeonpotang made with live seafood, every ingredient felt fresh, and the overall food quality was satisfying.

On top of that, the hot pot's broth — deeply brewed with plenty of cordyceps and loaded with fresh seafood and chicken — is both generous and genuinely restorative ‼️ With this level of quality and portion size, you'd expect it to be pricey, but overall the value for money was very satisfying.
