Family Korean BBQ in Dongbaek, Yongin: marinated pork galbi, Hanokjip

Today I want to introduce a Korean BBQ restaurant I visited with my parents. Actually, this wasn't my first time here haha! Last time I brought my parents on a special anniversary, and the whole family was pretty happy with it. So when everyone said they wanted meat again, we went back~

Parking and dining room at Dongbaek Hanokjip

Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant is located on the 1st floor of 221 Eodong-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, and parking is available. One thing I really liked was how easy the parking was! When you're worried about parking on a BBQ outing, it can be stressful, but here it was easy, which made it comfortable bringing my parents along.

Walking inside, the restaurant was pretty spacious and clean. The tables weren't cramped together, which made it comfortable for family dining, and it really was easy eating with my parents there. Personally, I pay attention to this kind of thing when dining out with my parents, and this place did well 😽

Choosing your own meat at the butcher counter

The fun part of Dongbaek Hanokjip is that you can pick your own meat directly at the butcher counter. From pork to beef, there were several cuts ready, so choosing was part of the fun~

Originally we were just planning to eat marinated pork ribs. But while browsing the butcher counter, the meat looked so good haha. Being able to see and choose the meat with your own eyes made it feel a bit more reassuring, and picking what to eat became part of the fun! In the end we ended up adding pork belly, which wasn't even in the plan 💛

With cuts ranging from pork to beef, it looked like a great place for a family to pick according to everyone's taste.

Side dishes and the self-service bar

After picking the meat and sitting down, the side dishes were set out, and none of them felt thrown together — overall they were clean and tasted pretty good. Sometimes at a BBQ place only the meat is good and the sides are just okay, but at Dongbaek Hanokjip we enjoyed the side dishes too.

You can also grab extra sauce or side dishes from the self-service bar!

And of course, meat has to be grilled over charcoal 🔥 The charcoal aroma was legendary, I'm dying ㅜㅜ

Once the meat hits the charcoal and starts sizzling, the smell alone is amazing ㅜㅜ

Samgyeopsal (pork belly) over charcoal: an unplanned order

First up, the pork belly we hadn't planned on ㅎㅎㅎㅎ Since we picked it ourselves at the butcher counter, we grilled it with high expectations!

Grilled golden brown over charcoal, the pork belly was really good. We originally planned to just eat pork ribs, but being able to see and choose the meat ourselves made us a little greedy ㅋㅋㅋ. This is why picking at a butcher restaurant always takes forever 🥹

When the meat quality is this good, it's just straight up delicious. So tasty, this pork belly... ♡

How the marinated pork galbi tasted

Ah, the pork ribs I'd been looking forward to! Dongbaek Hanokjip's pork marinated ribs were really good ㅜㅜ. With a gentle hint of charcoal smoke and the sauce fully soaked into the meat, even the smell of it grilling made my mouth water. The sauce wasn't too plain but also not overly strong, so I kept reaching for more~ Personally, out of everything I ate that day, the marinated ribs stood out the most!

Grilled golden over charcoal, it really felt like a proper Korean BBQ meal! I wrapped some in lettuce and also ate it plain, but honestly I just kept grabbing pieces of the meat by itself ㅎ

Bibim naengmyeon and yukhoe naengmyeon on the side

No matter how good the meat is, eating it continuously can get a little heavy after a while. So we also ordered bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) and yukhoe naengmyeon (cold noodles with raw beef tartare).

The bibim naengmyeon paired well with the meat, so we had bites of it in between. What I especially liked was the yukhoe naengmyeon. Its slightly tangy taste refreshed the palate between bites of meat. The yukhoe was soft and fresh, and it went well with the noodles~~~ If we'd only eaten meat, we might have gotten a bit tired of it, but the yukhoe naengmyeon kept us reaching for our chopsticks ㅎㅎ

Why Dongbaek Hanokjip works for a meal with parents

My dad, who joined us for the meal, was pretty satisfied too. When dining out with parents, the taste matters, but so do things like how spacious the restaurant is and how easy parking is. Dongbaek Hanokjip is fairly spacious and clean, and parking is convenient, so it worked well as a family dining spot! Above all, this was a place my parents already loved from our anniversary visit last time, which is why we came back — and once again, we had a comfortable meal :-)

And these little details were nice too. The restaurant had air freshener set out, and there was a charging spot near the register for phones and such! There were even candies there ㅋㅋㅋ~~~ yum yum

On top of that, there was even a coffee machine for dessert! Being able to grab a cup of coffee after the meat was such a thoughtful touch. This is what a proper Korean BBQ place should be like ✌🏻 Instead of leaving straight home with your mouth full of the smell of meat, having a cup of coffee on the way out made the whole meal feel more complete~

Overall, we had another great meal with the family. I especially liked being able to see and pick the meat myself at the butcher counter, and having a range of cuts from pork to beef meant we could choose whatever we felt like eating that day~ If you're looking for a place to take your parents out to eat like we were, it's worth considering parking and restaurant size too!
