Table setting with seafood nurungjitang at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch

A Chinese restaurant near Starfield Hanam: O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch

This time I went for a family meal with my kid to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang (오형제황제누룽지탕) Hanam Misa Main Branch. It's near Starfield Hanam, so it's a good spot to pair with a shopping trip or an outing to Hanam.

Two adults and one 7-year-old, three of us total, ordered seafood nurungjitang (crispy rice soup) + mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). Bottom line first: it was great to go with a kid, and the place was so spacious and clean that I want to come back next time with my parents!

Three minutes by car from Starfield Hanam: how is the parking?

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is really close, just a 3-minute drive from Starfield. I go to Starfield Hanam a lot but I'm never quite satisfied with the restaurants there, so if you're looking for a place near it with easy parking, big recommend!

The parking space was ample and it felt great to bring the kid there — we ate here before heading to Starfield, haha. The parking lot is pretty spacious, so whether you're driving with a kid or visiting with several cars to bring the parents along, there's less stress about parking.

A spacious dining room built for family gatherings

Clean hall seating good for family meals

First off, the restaurant was bigger than I expected, which was nice. Lots of tables, overall clean feel. When you go to a restaurant with a kid, taste matters, but if the place is too cramped or chaotic, you're already tired before the meal even starts, ㅠㅠ

The space here is nice and roomy, so it was comfortable eating as a family. While eating I thought it'd be fine to bring the parents here too. Reservations are also possible, so if you've got a bigger group like a family gathering, it's probably easiest to book ahead.

What is on the self-serve bar?

You get basic side dishes served first, and once you finish those, you can use the self-serve bar. Salad, mul-kimchi (water kimchi), pa-kimchi (scallion kimchi), and even fruit — a clean, well-stocked self-serve bar!

Big eaters would have no problem here, haha. The nurungjitang was so good and it paired really, really well with the kimchi!

Which dishes worked well for a 7-year-old?

A bowl of seafood nurungjitang good for sharing with a kid

Honestly, at a Chinese restaurant it can be tricky finding something for a kid to eat — a lot of spicy dishes, or you end up having to order something separate just for the kid. But that day, my little one ate the seafood nurungjitang just fine! And the thing my kid liked best...

Seafood abalone nurungjitang, 20,000 won

Seafood abalone nurungjitang loaded with abalone and shrimp

Our main order was seafood abalone nurungjitang. And the first thing that caught my eye the moment it arrived was the amount of seafood! The nurungjitang I ate was loaded with way more seafood than I expected — abalone, squid, shrimp, all of it!

It's not just one or two pieces for decoration — as you keep eating, more seafood keeps showing up, haha. The rice crust was also hearty, so after one bowl I felt like I'd had a proper meal.

Mini fresh-tenderloin tangsuyuk, 20,000 won: enough for three?

At first, seeing it labeled 'mini,' I thought, wait, is this really going to be just a few pieces? Hahaha, but the portion was actually pretty decent! More than enough, haha.

A plate of mini fresh-tenderloin tangsuyuk

The three of us shared it, and it was just right as a side to split. Eating it alongside the nurungjitang, having one piece of tangsuyuk each, the portion was neither too much nor too little. This kind of pairing was much better than ordering a big regular tangsuyuk and having leftovers.

Tangsuyuk served with dipping sauce on the side

As you can tell from the look of it, it's seriously delicious. It also came with the sauce on the side for dipping (jjik-meok style), which made it even better, hahaha.

The combo to order: seafood nurungjitang plus mini tangsuyuk

Having actually tried it, this combo of two dishes worked really well. Eating the hot seafood nurungjitang, grabbing a piece of tangsuyuk, then back to another spoonful of nurungjitang, hahaha. The seafood nurungjitang itself was so loaded with abalone, squid, shrimp, and more that it would've been a satisfying meal on its own?!

There was even a cute little shrimp in there, hahaha. Too cute, had to snap a photo.

Looking at these photos again, I want to eat it again... the seafood was plump and the pairing with the rice crust was just the best!

After finishing, scooping up some fruit from the self-serve bar felt like dessert heaven! We wrapped up with orange, which the kid loved.
