Caffeine-free iced chamomile tea at a Suwon café: Jeong Ji-young

Wandering around Haenggung-dong, we stopped by Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch (정지영커피로스터즈 행궁본점) for a coffee!

It's such a famous café in Haenggung-dong, especially for its coconut coffee, so I'd been curious about it for a while — and going in person, the interior was pretty and the drinks were satisfying too :)

First, a look at the exterior and interior design~!

Maybe because it's the main branch, but the exterior was just massive..! There was plenty of seating upstairs too, which was great haha

The coconut coffee that Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters made special with a patent..! We were curious about their signature menu so we ordered it and tried it too haha. It really was a special flavor..! I'll go into the taste review in detail below!

On the first floor there were these huge coffee machines(?) and what looked like bags full of coffee beans — wow, it was so impressive haha. There was also a faint coffee aroma in the air, which was lovely ^^*

Order on basement floor 1, sit upstairs

Orders are taken in the basement, and all the floors above have seating well laid out so you can settle in!

This is basement floor 1 where orders are taken..! Even the basement level was decorated in a hip, atmospheric way, and there were booths here and there selling Suwon goods, so it was fun just to browse haha

The interior design upstairs ❤️

After ordering and picking up on basement floor 1, once you head upstairs, every floor had blankets and water set out so you could drink comfortably! It felt like they really thought about guests' comfort, which I loved haha

The interior was spacious and decorated in a completely trendy style! The tables were also spaced widely apart, so it looked comfortable for guests to use without feeling cramped :)

They even had group seating ready like this! haha

The floor-to-ceiling windows were so big too, so the air circulated well, and with the nice autumn weather these days, we could really feel the fall breeze — it was so nice.

What does the patented coconut coffee taste like?

Now for the real taste review~~! 'Coconut coffee and chamomile'

My husband ordered the coconut coffee, one of the signature menu items here, and since I'm pregnant and staying off caffeine these days, I ordered iced chamomile tea instead of coffee. Honestly I was so curious about the coconut coffee that I snuck a sip of my husband's. Wow… it was way more special and delicious than I expected!

I'd just imagined a coffee with a generic coconut flavor, but the combination of coffee and coconut worked together surprisingly well, and the taste itself was distinctive enough to be memorable. I heard this place holds a patent related to coconut coffee, and maybe that's why — it definitely had a different, special feel compared to the usual café menu.

It was sweet yet had that distinctive nutty coconut flavor, and it blended so well with the coffee taste that even with just one sip, I could see why it's famous. I was almost a little sad I couldn't have more since I'm off caffeine right now haha

The iced chamomile tea I chose while avoiding caffeine

What I ordered was iced chamomile tea! Chamomile is often served warm, but it was hot out that day so I asked for it iced. It looked to me like it was chamomile tea brewed with a Rishi tea bag, and honestly, I never knew Rishi tea could taste this good. It had that mellow, comforting chamomile aroma, but the flavor wasn't flat at all — it was clean and totally my style!

Drinking it cold with ice really chased the heat away, and since it wasn't overly sweet or sharp, it was easy to sip slowly without feeling like too much. I personally loved that there was a tea option that even non-coffee drinkers could enjoy and actually love. Especially on a hot day like that one, iced chamomile turned out to be a pretty great choice.

Is this Suwon café worth a visit?

The coconut coffee my husband ordered was memorable even from just one sip, and the iced chamomile tea I hadn't expected much from turned out to be delicious too — overall I was really satisfied. Next time I visit, I want to have the chamomile tea again, and eventually I'd love to properly try a full cup of the coconut coffee myself :)
