A visit to Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch, a Yongin favorite

Gogi-ri in Yongin has a valley that's long drawn day-trippers, and as more people came to enjoy the valley, nice cafés and restaurants naturally sprang up around it. We'd shopped hard at Tokyo Used, so it was time to eat, right? A friend who's from Yongin recommended Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, so we gave it a try.

The inside atmosphere and seating
Walking inside, the whole space had a clean look with white and wood tones mixed together. Sunlight came through the floor-to-ceiling windows, keeping the interior bright and open, and the tables were spaced generously enough for a comfortable meal.
Seating centered on 4-person tables with several spread throughout, plus a group room, so it works well for families, friends, or couples — a solid choice for a weekend meal too.

What's the waiting lounge like?
True to its reputation as a local favorite, Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu has a separate waiting lounge.

Honestly, they could've squeezed in more tables in that space for better sales, but it was nice to see them prioritize waiting guests with a spacious, clean lounge instead.

Menu and prices at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch

I was surprised looking at the menu board — meat, vegetables and mushrooms, self-made kalguksu, and fried rice, the full set, for ₩11,500. Usually the base kalguksu doesn't include meat, so this price genuinely surprised me. Leave a receipt review and you get an extra serving of sirloin, so definitely don't skip that.

An honest, hands-on review of Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch
What we ordered today
- Shabu-kalguksu for 2, ₩23,000
- Sirloin 70g add-on, ₩4,000
- Minari add-on, ₩4,000

We ordered at the kiosk. When the food came out, the spoons and chopsticks arrived sitting in hot water like this — nice attention to hygiene.

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch makes its own kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and even has a separate noodle room. Foot-kneaded noodles — now that got me excited.

Self-serve bar setup
Water is self-serve, and the self-serve bar has broth plus geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi) and mu kimchi (radish kimchi). There's a fridge right next to the bar too, worth noting.

One regular kalguksu, one flat kalguksu
Our shabu-kalguksu arrived. We ordered one regular kalguksu and one flat kalguksu between the two of us. You can order per person, so I'd really recommend splitting it up like this.

This whole spread for ₩11,500 a person — why hadn't anyone brought me here sooner? Once the vegetable-packed broth starts boiling, a staff member adds in the flat noodles for you.
They explained you wrap the meat and vegetables in that flat noodle — I'd never eaten kalguksu that way before, and it was so, so good.

I don't usually eat much vegetable, but eating it this way I could've kept going endlessly. One thing all good restaurants have in common — you can tell from the kimchi alone — and Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu's kimchi was a perfect match with the noodles too.

After finishing the flat noodles with the vegetables and meat, they add in the kalguksu noodles next.

Being properly aged noodles, they cooked quickly and stayed chewy, soaking up the broth beautifully — so good!!! I couldn't resist and ordered more sirloin and vegetables.

Finishing with fried rice
Even just this much would've been a satisfying meal, but we still had fried rice waiting. Adding vegetables and sirloin in and simmering made the broth even richer.

A generous shabu spread: fragrant minari and mushrooms, crunchy water spinach, and tender beef — the fun of cooking each ingredient yourself in a hearty, full spread.
Chewy kalguksu: simmering foot-kneaded, self-made noodles in the richly steeped shabu broth makes for chewy noodles soaked through with deep flavor — a real treat.
And you know the fried rice is even better soaked in the leftover broth, right? I scraped the bowl clean, first time in a while.

If you're planning a date or family gathering in Gogi-ri, Yongin, I'd recommend this Dongcheon-dong-area favorite, Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu. We'd go back again, 100%.
