Weekend shabu-shabu wait with kalguksu, mil-tteok and rosé pasta

In short

Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch is a solo-friendly shabu-shabu restaurant in Jang-an-dong, Dongdaemun, Seoul. On a busy weekend evening the writer waited for a table, then tried the spicy beef belly broth with kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and mil-tteok (wheat rice cakes) added, plus a basic beef chuck broth loaded with mixed toppings and a vegetable-beef belly set. Even full, the finishing rosé pasta was worth saving room for.

Weekend evening wait and parking

I went on a weekend evening, and the moment I arrived there was already a line of waiting customers out front,

So I put my name and party size down on the waiting list right away and checked the parking info while I waited haha. Parking at Shabu Torang is available inside the ground-floor building, but since it's shared with the building's residents it's fairly tight, so keep that in mind ⭐️

There was also a menu board out front — having a main dish followed by an 'after dish' seems to be Shabu Torang's signature thing?!

Solo-friendly interior and table ordering

After the wait, our turn finally came and we were shown to our seats haha. Inside, the tables were set up nicely for eating alone, but plenty of people were also there on dates or with family!!

The menu ran on a table-order system where you order and pay directly from your seat, split into shabu-shabu / meat & veg add-ons / cooking add-ons / topping add-ons / drinks and alcohol.

There's a receipt review event that gets you a free soft drink, so keep that in mind ⭐️ *Ask staff for the receipt, scan the QR code, then save and write a review with photos or a video and the keywords (#Jangandong solo dining/date/lunch/dinner spot) to get the drink :)

After ordering, they filled the pot with the basic broth first,

and for the spicy broth, a seasoning sauce comes on the side that you mix into the basic broth to simmer — didn't know that! haha 💕

Spicy seasoning sauce to mix into the basic broth

The spicy seasoning sauce, beef belly, and vegetables come as the basic set,

and the kalguksu noodles and mil-tteok we added arrived on the same tray too :)

We mixed the spicy sauce in well, tossed in the vegetables and everything else, and dug into the shabu-shabu haha.

And then, my husband's basic broth order arrived as a full spread!!

He chose beef chuck for the basic meat, and with the added vegetable-beef belly set, it came out super generous!!

We threw everything into the basic broth and enjoyed the shabu-shabu haha.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ The basic broth with that hint of spice added was even more delicious — the spicy broth shabu-shabu!!

Round two with kalguksu, finished with rosé pasta

After fishing out all the vegetables and meat, we started round two with the kalguksu haha. But wait, eating the noodles too made us so full...???

Still, we had to have the final rosé pasta too... haha. Following the recommended way to eat it deliciously: ladle out the broth until only about half a ladle remains, pouring the rest into a side bowl, then pour the pasta into the pot, set the induction to level 3, stir until it thickens up nicely, then turn off the induction and enjoy 😊

Seriously, even if you're stuffed, you have to try the rosé pasta!! The moment we took a bite it was so good we forgot how full we were and kept eating 💕

The taste and the value for money were both so good that I think I'll be coming back to Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch often :) There's clearly a reason it's known as a waiting-line favorite — once you try it, a repeat visit feels inevitable!! If you're looking for a good spot in Jang-an-dong or craving shabu-shabu, I'd highly recommend stopping by Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch 🙏
