Gyeongju dessert takeout shop, 11:20am four-mochi pickup: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a premium takeout dessert shop on Sajeong-ro along Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. Arriving on a Saturday at 11:20am, the writer packed four giant fruit mochi — gold kiwi, peach, pineapple and Dubai fresh chocolate — while strawberry and tangerine mochi were finished for the season and will return in winter. The four mochi split neatly between three people, and the peach mochi was the one everyone reached for again.

Dessert trends like fruit sando and fruit mochi are everywhere these days, so I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and stopped by Tareudang, a famous dessert spot on Gyeongju's Hwangnidang-gil 🥝🍑🍈🍍 It's a premium takeout dessert shop that totally captures the tastes of both tourists and locals in Gyeongju :)

Where Tareudang is on Hwangnidang-gil, and its opening hours
Tareudang is a takeout dessert shop at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk, on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju. It's open daily from 11:00 to 19:00, but it can close early once ingredients run out!

When you're wandering around Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, there are pretty prop shops and cafés everywhere, and browsing around makes you want to buy and eat one thing after another 😮

So I went to grab some fruit mochi around 11:20am on a Saturday. Gyeongju's Tareudang runs on the principle of making and selling everything the same day!!!

Strawberry and tangerine mochi are done for the season — what Tareudang has now
Sadly strawberry and tangerine mochi were sold out at Tareudang, though they'll be back in winter. Normally I'd have gone straight for strawberry, but I'll just wait for winter ❄️☃️ ••••••••• *Buy 4 or more mochi and get ₩500 off each one!

The giant fruit mochi flavors were gold kiwi, pineapple, shine muscat, Dubai chocolate, peach, and mango. Besides the fruit mochi, they were also selling egg tarts, cheesecake tarts, and set menus — but the butter rice cake was sold out~!

The four mochi ordered, and the photo-review cooler bag
Here's what I ordered:
- ✔️Kiwi
- ✔️Peach
- ✔️Pineapple
- ✔️Dubai chocolate
That's what I went with! And buying 3 or more gets you a free box + cooler bag ⭐️ when you write a Naver "photo review" — why wouldn't I use that??? Straight to writing the photo review, go go go

Pulling the mochi bag out of the cool cooler bag — wrapped carefully in colorful packaging, and just looking at it you can tell these are giant fruit mochi, right??
Before the first bite: chewy mochi skin all around, dusted with powder on the outside, and sweet red bean underneath the fruit. Bigger than I expected — truly a giant mochi.

Gold kiwi giant mochi
The kiwi inside was bigger than I expected, and it came with soft cream too. The kiwi was really sweet and delicious?! Having actual fruit inside definitely made it feel lighter than a regular dessert rice cake — perfect :)

Dubai fresh chocolate mochi
Next up, the chocolate mochi. Just looking at it you could tell it'd have a rich chocolate flavor, so I took a bite full of expectations! Inside the chewy mochi skin was soft chocolate that wasn't overly sweet — the chocolate flavor really came through 🍫

Personally, I think the chocolate mochi would go perfectly with an iced Americano — one bite and you're craving one! If you love chocolate, definitely try it 🤤

Pineapple mochi
The cross-section of the pineapple fruit mochi, hah,,,😅 I took a big bite and there were several chopped pineapple pieces inside, and above all it was really sweet! I think it'd taste even better chilled in the fridge. If you like refreshing, sweet desserts, this one's a recommend!!!!

Peach mochi, the favorite of the four
The one I was most excited about — peach mochi 🍑 I'm a fan of soft, ripe peaches, and this one was nice and soft too, so I was happy ヾ(´∀`)ノ゙ The flesh was insane — I gasped the moment I took a bite..!
👧🏻👩🏻🧒🏻 : Ooh, this peach is delicious
The three of us took turns finishing it off neatly ..... It was sweet but had that fresh, tangy fruit flavor too, so it never felt too heavy — personally, this was the flavor I reached for the most among the fruit mochi 🤍

Is Tareudang mochi a good picnic snack for Hwangnidang-gil?
Packing up several kinds, from fruit mochi to chocolate mochi, each one tastes different, so there's real fun in picking and choosing — Tareudang, a well-known dessert spot on Gyeongju's Hwangnidang-gil, is great to take out on a picnic, and since it's close to hotspots and major heritage sites like Cheomseongdae and Donggung and Wolji, you can stop by for a light visit and a sweet fruit mochi 🍓 for a perfect sugar boost. If you're looking for a simple snack or a dessert to pair with coffee, I'd recommend grabbing a few different kinds to go :)
