Couple brunch date in Pangyo: basil cream sandwich, Eight Years

In short

Eight Years Pangyo is a terrace brunch restaurant at the entrance to the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a couple's brunch date, the writer and her husband ordered the handmade basil cream sauce sandwich and the cream gnocchi, both made with ingredients brought in daily from Garak Market for a mild, wholesome flavor. The wait ran 20-30 minutes at the lunch peak and the cream sauce was slightly salty, but Eight Years Pangyo is still worth recommending for brunch on the Baekhyeon-dong café street.

Eight Years sits right at the entrance to the café street, near the Baekhyeon-dong public parking lot, so it was easy to find. The café street is full of restaurants, cafés, and little shops, so it was great to wander around after eating.

Inside Eight Years Pangyo: terrace seats and the best time to go

The interior at Eight Years Pangyo is bright, with plants scattered around that give it a warm feeling. The sunlight pouring into the space actually lifted my mood -!

With the weather being so nice these days, eating on the terrace seemed like it would be amazing. Since terrace seats are so popular, they don't take reservations, so people apparently do opening runs for them ;; (if you want a terrace seat, go on a weekday morning, early!)

Indoor bathroom and separate sink at Eight Years

The bathroom is indoors and clean. The sink is separate from the toilet area, which made washing hands before eating convenient. There's also a baby chair, so it seems like a good spot for a weekend family brunch too.

The kitchen seemed pretty small compared to the number of tables? Once lunchtime hit, orders backed up and the kitchen felt cramped. It took about 20-30 minutes for the food to come out after ordering.

Sandwich and cream gnocchi served together at Eight Years

How do the basil cream sandwich and cream gnocchi taste?

Eight Years makes healthy food with fresh ingredients sourced daily from Garak Market, and even the ciabatta is made without preservatives. Maybe that's why the food tastes mild and healthy rather than intense. It's not overpowering like franchise sandwiches, which is probably why a lot of older folks seem to come here too :)

Handmade basil cream sauce sandwich
Cross-section of the ciabatta sandwich

This is a sandwich with handmade basil cream sauce, low-sodium bacon, cheese, and fresh vegetables. The clean, nutty flavor of the ciabatta combined with the freshness of the vegetables made it delicious and filling 👍

Eight Years cream gnocchi with penne
Cream gnocchi with shrimp and broccoli

The special sauce and cream come together for a nutty flavor with a nice hit of garlic that really suits Korean tastes in gnocchi. The penne was cooked just right, and the thick, rich cream sauce is normally exactly my style, but on this day it tasted a bit salty, which was slightly disappointing,, It had broccoli, mushrooms, and shrimp, and the shrimp were plump enough that you could really feel the chewy texture — I liked that!

It felt good to have a leisurely date with my husband after a while, and to eat delicious food too~ I'd recommend this as a brunch spot on the Baekhyeon-dong café street 👍
