Songdo sushi set with uni and white fish for guests: Sushi Doku

Now that the weather's cooling down, I've been craving raw fish and sushi so badly! There's a proper sushi place in Songdo, so I went to check it out~!

Where is Sushi Doku The Songdo, and what does it look like?

This is Sushi Doku — it's so well-known by word of mouth that a lot of you have probably heard of it~ Coming out from Songhyeona, it's right next to Songdo Hyundai Premium Outlet, on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall!

There's almost always a wait here, not just on weekends but on weekdays too! They also get a lot of group reservations, so some menu items can sell out, so I'd recommend booking ahead before you visit!

The inside of Sushi Doku The Songdo is always pleasant and full of atmosphere every time I go~ Restaurants that handle fish tend to have at least a bit of a fishy smell, but even I, who's sensitive to smells, am always satisfied here — it's clearly well managed!

The menu has the Original sushi set (10 pieces), Premium sushi set (10 pieces), and Deluxe full sushi set (13 pieces)~! There's also a kids' set and the option to order specific sushi like salmon or flounder~!

What comes with the 10-piece premium sushi set?

We usually order the premium sushi set~ It's really filling and also the best choice when treating guests to a meal!

First, the salad came to wake up our appetite~ the vegetables were fresh and the dressing was so good I wanted another bowl haha. The fried shrimp looked so delicious I took a bite before it got cold! The shrimp meat was plump and the outside was super crispy — such a delicious dish~ The tartar sauce that came with it was really rich and nutty too~!

Next I tried a sip of the udon broth — wow... I don't even like udon, but once you taste this broth you just keep drinking it, it's that deep and clean. Honestly, it was better than what I've had in Japan!

And the Japanese-style steamed egg custard, which clearly took a lot of care to make — one bite and it was so soft I barely noticed it going in my mouth?! I liked that the seasoning wasn't sweet, and the combination of flying fish roe and ginkgo nuts inside was amazing~ Something adults would definitely love!

How to eat the sushi with the soy sauce brush

Sushi Doku The Songdo has a unique way of eating: they brush soy sauce onto each piece of sushi carefully~ Maybe because of that, the seasoning was much more evenly spread than dipping the rice directly in soy sauce, and I liked that the rice didn't get mushy~!

Best pieces: white fish, shrimp and uni sushi

Among the sushi I had, the white fish, shrimp, and uni (sea urchin) were the tastiest~! The other pieces were all above average and excellent too~

The eel wasn't overly seasoned and had a subtle smoky, grilled flavor, so even people who don't like the fishy smell of eel could enjoy it deliciously.

Are 10 pieces of sushi filling enough?

You might wonder if 10 pieces of sushi will fill you up..? But each piece of sashimi is generously sized, and more importantly, the sides aren't an afterthought — salad, udon, egg custard, and fried shrimp all come properly, so even big eaters can leave full~! Next time I want to come back with family to try the deluxe full sushi set~!
