Gujwa black pork grill house, Jeju: babymoon set for two at Don Gueo

I'm writing up the review for Don Gueo, the most satisfying black pork restaurant we visited on this babymoon trip to Jeju.🙌💕

Where is Don Gueo, and where do you park? (1-3 minutes from Sehwa Beach)

Don Gueo is located at 38 Sepyeonghang-ro, Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, South Korea, on the 1st floor. It's just 1-3 minutes by car from Sehwa Beach, so it's a perfect stop when you're hungry after playing at the beach or swimming.

Parking is available in the lot between the restaurant and the church, and if that's full you can park near the storefront or along the road.

What is the dining room at Don Gueo like?

The space at Don Gueo was spacious with plenty of room between tables, which made it really comfortable. The whole place was super clean, so I liked it the moment I walked in. One wall was covered with quite a few celebrity autographs!

What especially caught my eye was a dedicated aging fridge on one side of the restaurant with 'aging in progress' written on it in big letters.🫠 Seeing the meat being carefully aged with my own eyes got me excited before I'd even eaten haha.ㅎ

What comes in the 21,000 won Jeju black pork set for two?

I ordered Don Gueo's signature Jeju black pork set for two.

The set includes aged pork belly (180g), black pork kimchi stew and rice, all for a very reasonable ₩21,000 — great value.👍❣️

The way it's done is you coat the grill pan with pork fat first, then grill the meat on top. The pork belly was thick and well-aged, and it got chewier the more you chewed it!👍

Grilling bracken fern (gosari), kimchi and seasoned bean sprouts on the pan in the meat's own fat was a real treat! Especially the bracken fern😍!! I highly recommend eating it together with the meat!!

Wrapping the meat in a big lettuce leaf with fresh greens was also delicious!

The black pork kimchi stew included in the set was packed with meat and the kimchi was well-fermented — so good!😍

Self-serve side dish bar and the steamed egg review event

The default side dishes at Don Gueo include scallion salad, lettuce, perilla leaves, peppers, seasoned bean sprouts, julienned radish, bracken fern and kimchi, and

if you run low on side dishes or wraps, you can freely help yourself at the self-serve bar. I personally loved eating it together with the scallion salad🫠💕

The bubbling meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) you simmer had great savory depth with no fishy taste,

and the self-serve bar also had galchisokjeot (fermented hairtail intestine sauce) available, so there was plenty of variety to enjoy🙌💕

By the way, if you save Don Gueo on Naver and write a receipt review, you get a free steamed egg (gyeranjjim).💕 It comes out piled up like a bomb in a stone pot, soft and moist — make sure you get this too❣️❣️

How was the extra 200g of aged black pork neck?

After being satisfied with the pork belly, we added an order of aged pork neck (single order, 200g). The neck also came in thick cuts, and even the leaner parts were soft and tender with no dryness at all!

Is Don Gueo worth a stop near Sehwa Beach?

Every time I visit the Gujwa or Sehwa Beach area of Jeju, I used to struggle deciding which BBQ place to go to — but from now on I'll head to Don Gueo without a second thought❣️ The staff were genuinely kind and the atmosphere was so relaxed that I enjoyed the whole meal in a great mood.
