Jeju dessert café: seasonal fig and Oreo choco cake, Gluttony Coffee

In short

Gluttony Coffee is a Blue Ribbon-listed dessert café on Gunam-ro 2-gil in Jeju City. During fig season the café sells a fig cake for 8,000 won and an Oreo choco cake for 8,500 won, tasted here with a Gluttony latte and chamomile tea; the light fig slice and the dense chocolate one did not overlap, so ordering both was worth it. Back at Gluttony Coffee for the seasonal fig cake

Jeju is totally in fig season right now!! Figs with their subtle sweetness and crunchy seeds are one of my favorite fruits. Being the fig lover that I am (haha), every fall I make sure to hunt down desserts with figs in them.

And my favorite of all is fig cake! I love the combination of soft whipped cream and sweetly ripened figs so much that I can't walk past a place selling fig cake haha.

So when I heard that Gluttony Coffee, the Blue Ribbon café I'd visited before, had launched a whole fig cake for fig season, I went straight there!!

It feels like just yesterday I visited and tried the corn cake, and now summer's already ending... kind of made me feel wistful.

Clean, tidy dining area at Gluttony Coffee

It's such a popular hotspot café that even though we came at an awkward midday hour, it was packed with people. (The empty seat right in front was the one we'd claimed!)

Gluttony's cakes are great, but honestly the levain cookies and financiers are the main event! Last time I visited I also had a financier and it was so good. Today I'd eaten till I was stuffed, so the financier was a pass..!

What we ordered at Gluttony Coffee and what it cost

  • Fig cake ₩8,000
  • Oreo choco cake ₩8,500
  • Gluttony latte ₩5,500
  • Chamomile tea ₩5,000

It felt like a waste to only pick one cake, so I tried one fig and one chocolate.

Fig cake, Oreo choco cake and drinks laid out together

How does the fig cake taste?

The one I was looking forward to most was of course the fig cake! Just the sight of those big chunks of fig piled on top was mouthwatering. Eating the sweet, soft fig flesh together with the fluffy sponge and cream was... pure bliss..!

Figs really are best eaten with bread, like in cake or toast, rather than plain. The sweetness of the fruit paired beautifully with the cream, and the little pop of fig seeds throughout was a great texture. Since I love fig cake so much, this was still my favorite of everything I ate that day haha.

What is the Oreo choco cake like?

The Oreo choco cake we also ordered had a completely different vibe from the fig cake! Rich, sweet chocolate with Oreo mixed in — exactly the kind of thing you want when your blood sugar dips.

If the fig cake was relatively light and refreshing to eat, the Oreo choco cake was great for really indulging in deep sweetness. The two didn't overlap in flavor at all, so ordering both turned out to be a good call!

Gluttony latte and chamomile tea with the two cake slices

For drinks we ordered the Gluttony latte and chamomile tea. The Gluttony latte had my curiosity since it carries the café's name. It paired well with the sweet cakes and was nice to sip between bites.

The chamomile tea was warm and clean, making it a good choice alongside two sweet desserts. Especially since we'd ordered two whole cakes lol, sipping the chamomile tea between bites helped balance things out when the sweetness got to be too much.

Is Gluttony Coffee worth a stop in Jeju City?

I went because I love figs, and I got to eat the fig cake I'd been wanting plus polished off the Oreo choco cake too. Every fig season I find myself hunting down dessert cafés, and this year I'm satisfied to have had my favorite fig cake again haha. If you're looking for a Jeju café with fig desserts or a good variety of cakes, Gluttony Coffee is worth saving!
