I wanted a hearty meat spread near Mulwang Lake, so I went to Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch. The signature dish here is bulgogi grilled over charcoal, giving it that real smoky charcoal flavor. It looked delicious even in photos, but the smell and texture were even more impressive in person :) It's a great stop if you're driving around Mulwang Lake, and there was plenty of private parking so no worries there~!

Isn't the seated baby chair just so cute!? We called ahead to book a room since we came as a family with a baby.

Inside, there were seated private rooms as well as table seating — bigger and cleaner than I expected, and it looked like a nice spot for a family meal or a gathering. The green scenery through the floor-to-ceiling windows was really relaxing too. It felt like getting away from the busy city for a leisurely meal, so I'd totally recommend it to anyone looking for a good restaurant by Mulwang Reservoir ~!💚

I'd recommend booking a table seat with a window view — on nice days like these, those seats fill up fast.

Countryside grandma's doenjang jjigae, 5,000 won: soft tofu instead of firm tofu

Bulhyangjip's countryside grandma's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) is ₩5,000, and we ordered two. Doenjang jjigae usually has regular tofu in it, but this one had soft tofu instead. The texture was genuinely great, and the salty depth of the stew was such a rice thief — I'd really recommend ordering it without fail~!

Charcoal gochujang bulgogi, 15,900 won: how spicy is it?

The charcoal gochujang bulgogi, full of smoky flavor, is ₩15,900, and we ordered two servings. Order this one too, without fail. At first you taste a mild sweetness, and then a pleasant spiciness builds up as you keep eating (about as spicy as mild Jin Ramyeon). It's not aggressively spicy, more of a sweet-and-spicy flavor that makes you want more rice, so it seemed like something anyone could enjoy without worry.

A bite of gochujang bulgogi topped with shredded scallions

I also liked that even though the sauce was rich, it didn't cover up the charcoal aroma. The slightly charred bits gave off a subtle smoky scent, and eating it with the shredded scallions made the sauce flavor even smoother.

Bulhyangjip's signature charcoal scallion bulgogi, 15,900 won

Bulhyangjip's signature dish, the charcoal scallion bulgogi, is ₩15,900 and we ordered 3 servings. Shredded scallions and chives are piled sky-high over the charcoal-grilled meat! Cooking it a bit more on the grill naturally wilts the scallions and chives, blending them together nicely and savory. The meat is thin so it's never tough, and piling the smoky meat with crunchy scallions and fragrant chives kept me reaching for more without any greasiness.

Eating the scallions together with the meat was a great combo, and it's an absolute rice thief with rice too. Eating just the bulgogi alone could've gotten repetitive, but alternating with the gochujang bulgogi kept it interesting😋

A bowl of Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles

Bulhyangjip bibim noodles, 9,000 won: how they differ from usual bibim noodles

Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles are ₩9,000. There's a regular bibim noodles too, but since it was only a thousand won difference, I tried the Bulhyangjip version. It's definitely different — it has some liquid unlike typical bibim noodles, and with a sesame oil and spicy sauce base, it tastes like the noodles you'd get at a traditional market. If you like savory noodles, I'd recommend trying it ~!

Who is Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch best for?

This was a great restaurant in Siheung where you can properly enjoy that distinctive charcoal aroma in the bulgogi along with plenty of vegetables. With its spacious parking lot, group seating, and private rooms, it seemed comfortable whether you're bringing your parents or gathering with a larger group. I'd recommend it as a spot for a family meal out ~!
