Suwon bar with window seats for mala pork belly stir-fry: Ryu-eun
In short
Ryu-eun is a Korean bar and kitchen on Sinpung-ro 23beon-gil in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, with indoor seating on the ground floor and outdoor and floor-to-ceiling window seats upstairs. On a boyfriend's birthday-week date, the order at Ryu-eun was usamgyeop mala sukju bokkeum (stir-fried beef belly and mung bean sprouts in mala sauce, with glass noodles added) at 23,000 won, yurinki (crispy fried chicken with tangy sauce) at 19,000 won, Spam rice at 2,000 won, and a lemon squash at 10,000 won. The mala dish was solid enough that a drinks-and-snacks stop turned into a full dinner.

Ryu-eun, a Haenggung-dong bar with great vibes! This time I came for a date to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday week! Let me introduce Ryu-eun, a Haenggung-dong date spot great for good food and a drink><

- Location: 38-9 Sinpung-ro 23beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do
- A Haenggung-dong bar with great atmosphere

With a clean, upscale exterior, Ryu-eun is a great Haenggung-dong spot for a date or a gathering! I came here for a date today.
What are the ground-floor and second-floor seats like at Ryu-eun?
Inside Ryu-eun there's seating on both the 1st and 2nd floors. The outdoor seats on the 2nd floor were popular. With the weather being so nice lately, lots of couples were enjoying the cool breeze.

I ate on the 2nd floor, and the floor-to-ceiling windows gave a wide-open, refreshing view. The tables were spaced generously too, so it's a great bar for actually having a conversation.

There's a wide variety of drinks too, so I'd recommend it not just for dates but for group gatherings.

What's on the food and drinks menu at Ryu-eun?
Ryu-eun had a really wide range of dishes. From salmon sashimi and yukhoe (raw beef) to soup dishes like odeng-tang (fish cake soup) and sul-jjim (steamed dishes with alcohol), all the way to spicy options like tteokbokki and mala tang — the choices were genuinely varied. And the prices for the dishes were reasonable, too — pass!!

There's also a wide selection of drinks — cocktails, wine, and more. They had non-alcoholic options too, so there was plenty to choose from.

- Usamgyeop mala suchae bokkeum (with glass noodles) ₩23,000
- Yurinki ₩19,000
- Spam rice ₩2,000
- Lemon squish ₩10,000
Mala beef belly and bean sprout stir-fry, 23,000 won
I was craving something spicy today, so I ordered Ryu-eun's mala suchae bokkeum. The aroma of mala spice and savory oil really hit the senses! Mala dishes can be hard to make look good, but this one looked genuinely delicious.

The tender pork belly (usamgyeop) came in a generous portion too. Eating it with the crunchy mung bean sprouts made for a great contrast in texture. Full of mala flavor!! It's a deliciously spicy dish I'd highly recommend for anyone who loves mala, haha.

You can add glass noodles for ₩2,000! The noodles come in a generous amount, and they soak up all the mala sauce — the umami is amazing.

While eating, I ordered a bowl of rice too, to cool down my tingling tongue. And they had Spam rice?! The combo of salty Spam and mala is great, haha.

Mala suchae bokkeum with plain rice is the best combo, right?! I came to eat a bar snack and ended up having a full meal too, haha. The usamgyeop mala suchae bokkeum had so many toppings and such generous portions that it felt like eating at a specialty mala restaurant. It's a Haenggung-dong bar with really solid food quality><
Yurinki fried chicken, 19,000 won: crisp outside, juicy inside
You can't have mala without something fried, right? I ordered Ryu-eun's yurinki for ₩19,000, crispy fried chicken. The outside was crispy but the inside was juicy — the textbook definition of crispy-outside-juicy-inside.

The coating was thin and crispy, which let the chicken flavor really come through. The chicken wasn't dry at all — it was soft, with great texture. The pieces were also nice and big, which made it even more satisfying to eat, haha. The plating was clean too.

The cabbage underneath added crunch and freshness. Eating it together with the fried chicken made everything feel cleaner — it cuts right through the greasiness of the fried chicken.

As I kept eating, the spicy, addictive flavor hooked me — I'd recommend yurinki to anyone looking for a simple fried snack!!
Lemon squash, 10,000 won, also available non-alcoholic
For a drink, I ordered a refreshing lemon squish for ₩10,000. It's a cocktail where you can really taste the tang of lemon, and it can also be ordered non-alcoholic. The presentation was fresh and pretty too, which really lifted the date mood!

Today I ordered pretty intense, spicy dishes, and this cocktail cleanly reset the palate afterward.

If you're looking for a refreshing cocktail, I'd recommend the lemon squish as a light option.
Is Ryu-eun a good spot for dates and get-togethers in Haenggung-dong?
