Seongdong Italian restaurant French rack for 3 at a bridal shower

In short

Sedici is an Italian restaurant on the ground floor of Arc Valley in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, known for its gnocchi and fresh pasta. Forty days before her wedding, the writer met two friends for a weekday-evening invitation party and ordered beef tartare, shrimp crumble pasta, fried potato gnocchi with sweet corn, and a French rack. The fried gnocchi, crisp outside and soft inside, was the standout, and the French rack came in nearly a double portion, perfect for sharing among three.

With my wedding only about 40 days away, I've been having so many invitation parties lately. Today I went to Sedici, famous as one of Seongsu's best gnocchi spots. Using the invitation party as an excuse, my friends and I had such a fun time chatting away.

Sedici in Seongsu, a gnocchi spot with such a great atmosphere

Sedici's exterior in Seongsu with evening sunlight on a weekday

The days are definitely getting longer these days. I visited around 6pm on a weekday, and the sunlight was pouring in so beautifully at Sedici. Located on the first floor of Arc Valley in Seongsu-dong, it's a restaurant that's really accessible by car in an area where parking is usually tough (1 hour of parking support on weekdays, 2 hours on weekends).

Quiet seating for conversation and an open kitchen

One unique thing was a staff service space in the middle, with tables arranged on either side. This effectively divides the space into three sections, which made it really nice and quiet for chatting, and the seats by the floor-to-ceiling windows with the sunlight streaming in were so pretty, I loved it ><

Since it's an open kitchen, you can watch the cooking happen, so you can tell right away how hygienically everything is prepared and when your food is about to come out.

What the three of us ordered

  • Beef tartare (with added brioche)
  • Fried potato gnocchi with sweet corn
  • Shrimp crumble pasta
  • French rack

Since there were three of us, we ordered generously — one appetizer, one gnocchi, one pasta, and even a French rack. First out were the beef tartare and shrimp crumble pasta.

Beef tartare + added brioche

The beef tartare has laver pesto and yukhoe (raw beef) under chives... doesn't it come out so pretty?? haha. And on top of that, brioche bread that's crisp outside and soft inside.

Beef, laver pesto, and chives all piled on together with the brioche. The subtle aroma of chives and the buttery scent of the brioche went really well together — a perfect appetizer to whet the appetite.

Shrimp crumble pasta

The shrimp crumble pasta had a rich shrimp aroma you could really taste. Packed with shrimp, and the crunch of the crumble gave an extra edge to what could otherwise be a plain pasta — a delicious shrimp pasta where texture, taste, and aroma all came together.

Why the fried potato gnocchi with sweet corn was the best

Then came the fried potato gnocchi with sweet corn. Sedici really is a top gnocchi spot in Seongsu. The fried potato gnocchi with sweet corn is genuinely delicious, so make sure to order it. Gnocchi can sometimes end up with a slightly mushy, potato-cake-like texture, but frying it makes the outside crisp and the inside soft and moist — quite different from regular gnocchi. Personally, it was best when I took a bite of the sweet corn, gnocchi, and sauce all together, and the fried gnocchi in particular was a stroke of genius! There's a reason it's the best menu item.

French rack — the portion is bigger than you'd think

And finally, the French rack. Honestly, I was surprised by how much bigger the portion was than expected lol. Since it's listed as a steak dish, I expected a single-serving size, but almost two servings came out..haha.

French rack served with soy-glazed sautéed oyster mushrooms

The soy-sauce-glazed sautéed oyster mushrooms are the key side, so I'd definitely recommend eating them together. Nicely salty and the mushrooms were chewy and tasty, and it was great eaten together with the pork.

Overall thoughts from an invitation party visit

Sedici, a top gnocchi spot in Seongsu. The crisp-outside, soft-inside fried potato gnocchi was so delicious, and I really loved the modern, cozy atmosphere of the restaurant filled with sunlight. I visited for an invitation party, but it's a place that would work just as well for a date, so I think I'll come back with my husband next time🤍
