Friday evening, I spent ages trying to figure out what to eat near Sanghyeon Station and finally settled on jokbal! Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch, a new spot right in front of Exit 2 of Sanghyeon Station on the Sinbundang Line, kept catching my eye every time I passed by~ So today, for anyone looking for jokbal near Sanghyeon Station, here's the full story of my visit!

How to find Cheongdam Jokbal from Sanghyeon Station Exit 2
Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch is 147m from Exit 2 of Sanghyeon Station on the Sinbundang Line. I barely walked a few steps out of the subway before the sign came into view~ It's on the ground floor so there's no need to climb stairs, and the floor-to-ceiling windows mean you can see right inside, so even first-timers won't get lost.

Under the sign it says in big letters: 100% domestic fresh trotters used, boiled fresh every day. Honestly, that's the one phrase that wins me over when picking a jokbal place~ Knowing it's boiled in-house daily and sold same-day really got my hopes up!

Next to the entrance there was a big banner for the 5,000-won takeout discount. Seemed like a great deal for those days when you just want to eat comfortably at home!
Inside Cheongdam Jokbal: seating and an outdoor terrace

In front of Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch there's an outdoor terrace laid with artificial grass. Being mid-September, the evening air was perfectly cool — great weather for sitting outside with a drink~ There were actually other guests seated at the outdoor tables too!

Flame-grilled vs lean-meat jokbal: how the two halves taste
The main jokbal cut is grilled deeply on the outside, giving off a strong smoky aroma. The chewy texture stays the same but the finish is much richer~ On the other hand, the leaner cut is plain and tender, so switching between the two kept things interesting the whole way through!

When you pick up a piece, it's noticeably thick. Definitely different from places that slice it thin~ The skin is chewy, the meat inside melts soft, and with a wrap of perilla leaf and a clove of garlic, I just kept eating!

The complimentary flame-grilled salt-seasoned pork was also a treat~~~ Picking the meat off the bone was its own kind of fun~ The saying that meat tastes best eaten with your hands held true here too!
Free makguksu with every dine-in jokbal order

The real surprise at Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch is the makguksu (buckwheat noodles). If you order jokbal or bossam at a table, makguksu comes free! It's an 8,000-won menu item on its own, so getting it included felt great~

The sauce comes topped generously with julienned radish, cabbage, and perilla leaves. Mix it all up and wrap it with the jokbal, and the tangy flavor cuts right through the fat! I would've missed this if it hadn't come free~
Is the 6,000-won seaweed-flake rice ball worth adding?

I added the gimgaru rice ball (seaweed-flake rice ball, 6,000 won) as a side, and it turned out to be a great call! Topped with mayonnaise, pickled radish, and flying fish roe on top of the seaweed flakes, it looks gorgeous even before you touch it~

Mix it all together and take a spoonful — the savory, salty flavor hits right away. After all that jokbal, a bite of rice made for the perfect finish! I think kids would enjoy this one too~
Parking and the 5,000-won takeout discount
No worries if you're driving. You can use the building's underground parking lot, and it's free for 2 hours! I was hesitant about parking near Sanghyeon Station, but this was actually my favorite part~
- Parking: Building's underground parking lot, free for 2 hours
- Takeout perk: 5,000 won discount on takeout orders
- Complimentary side: Free makguksu with any hall order of jokbal or bossam

Final verdict on a jokbal dinner for two in Suji
To sum up, Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch has a great location, has parking, and lets you enjoy two flavors of jokbal in one meal! It was clean with no gamey smell and the portions were generous, so the two of us left completely full~ With makguksu included for free on top of that, it felt like solid value too.
For anyone looking for jokbal or bossam near Sanghyeon Station, or trying to figure out a spot for a family meal or a work dinner, I'd happily recommend this place! Next time I want to try the tender bossam and the flame-grilled bulljokbal set~
