What is O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch?

While looking for a place to eat in Hanam, I wanted something a bit different this time, so I visited O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch. When I think of Chinese food I usually think of jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, or sweet and sour pork, but this place is a nurungjitang (scorched rice soup) specialist from the name alone, so I was curious.

In particular, I heard you can get seafood nurungjitang served in an individual hot stone pot, so it seemed like a good option to visit with parents or family. These days there are so many restaurants in Hanam that when I search for good spots, I end up checking whether parking is convenient and whether it's comfortable to bring older family members — and this place scored well on both counts.

Is parking easy? Free space for about 30 cars

I drove there, and the parking area was spacious, which I liked right away.

There was parking space in front of and around the ground floor of the building, and they said they run a large free parking lot that fits about 30 cars.

When you're doing a family outing in Hanam, parking is always a bit of a worry, but here you can park right in front of the store, which felt convenient. Especially when moving around with parents or kids, walking a long way from the parking lot to the restaurant can be a hassle, but here you can walk straight in. I thought that not having to worry about parking makes this a solid pick for a Hanam family gathering or family meal out.

It's also within walking distance from Hanam Pungsan Station, but since the parking lot is so spacious, personally I'd say driving there is also convenient.

Inside the restaurant: private rooms, group tables, high chairs

Walking inside, the space was bigger than I expected. The tables were spaced out generously too, so it didn't feel too cramped next to the next table, and it seemed like a comfortable spot for a family to sit and eat.

There were also group seating and private rooms available, so it looked usable for everything from a small family gathering to a larger dinner with several people.

They also had baby chairs on hand, which seemed convenient for families visiting with young kids.

Menu and prices at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang

On this visit I ordered two dishes: seafood abalone nurungjitang for ₩20,000 and mini fresh tenderloin sweet and sour pork for ₩20,000.

I heard the seafood abalone nurungjitang is seafood nurungjitang topped with abalone and saessak-sam (young ginseng sprouts), so I decided on it right away. Above all, I liked that it's served individually in a hot stone pot per person. The sweet and sour pork also came in a mini size, which was nice as a side dish for two people to share.

Looking at the menu, besides the nurungjitang dishes, they also had a variety of Chinese dishes like chili shrimp, yurinki (crispy fried chicken with tangy sauce), and palbochae (mixed seafood and vegetable stir-fry), so if you go with a group, it seems like you could order a few different dishes and share, haha.

They're also running a mileage points program and a review event, so definitely take part!!

What is on the self-serve side dish and fruit bar?

On one side there was a self-serve bar where you could help yourself to various side dishes and dessert fruit.

It wasn't just the main dish — being able to grab side dishes too made the meal feel more filling and complete.

The banchan (side dishes) came out first.

How does the single-serving stone pot seafood abalone nurungjitang taste?

Finally, the seafood abalone nurungjitang I ordered arrived, and right in front of me they mixed the scorched rice into the hot stone pot, so it looked delicious from the start. They also topped it with saessak-sam and abalone as garnish.

With the scorched rice sitting in the hot broth, it was fun watching the rice slowly soak up the soup as time passed.

You could taste the distinct umami of the seafood, and overall it was mild and clean rather than spicy or intense — good for a warm, comforting meal.

Eating the abalone in between bites made it feel a bit heartier than a plain nurungjitang.

It was delicious eaten right away while hot, but it was also nice as the rice softened while cooling down a bit.

Personally, I thought this kind of dish would be especially good to eat with parents. It's not a spicy or intense dish, so it suits times when you want a warm meal that's easy on the stomach.

Pairing the nurungjitang with mini fresh tenderloin tangsuyuk

The fresh tenderloin sweet and sour pork we ordered together also paired better than I expected. Where the nurungjitang is mild and warm, the sweet and sour pork added a crispy texture that was nice to alternate with.

Maybe because it used tenderloin, the meat wasn't chewy but rather tender. The outside was fried crisp while the inside stayed moist, so switching back and forth between it and the nurungjitang made for a pretty good combination.

The sweet and sour pork was tasty dipped in sauce too, and a little sauce added a sweet-and-tangy note that went well with the plain, clean nurungjitang.

If you're visiting with a larger group, it seems like a good idea to order one nurungjitang per person and add on dishes like sweet and sour pork, chili shrimp, or yurinki to share.

Is it a good spot for a family meal in Hanam?

Having eaten there, I could see why it's a good pick for a family meal out or gathering. The parking was spacious and the store itself was roomy, and the menu itself is easy for all ages to enjoy, so it felt like an easy place to bring family.

If you're looking for a restaurant in Hanam to take your parents to, or a place where the whole family can eat comfortably together, I think this is a Hanam Chinese restaurant worth a visit. With hot seafood and abalone in a scorched rice hot pot, it felt different from the Chinese food I usually eat, which made it more memorable.

Next time I'd like to try other nurungjitang menus besides the seafood abalone version, along with dishes like chili shrimp or yurinki. If you're looking for a warm, filling meal in Hanam or a spot for a family outing, O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is worth considering.
