Where to eat in Yeosu with kids: finding Tongkeun Shabu

Visiting Tongkeun Shabu, an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu spot near Yeosu City Hall

We were trying to figure out where to eat as a family in Yeosu, and this time decided on shabu-shabu. We'd been eating mostly seafood, so I was starting to feel a bit bad for the kid haha. I heard there's a famous all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu place near Yeosu City Hall, so of course we had to check it out!

Since we were eating out with our kid, we wanted somewhere with a varied menu and reasonable prices, and that's how we found Tongkeun Shabu (통큰샤브). All-you-can-eat shabu-shabu plus a salad bar sounded like a great fit for a family outing.

Location: near Yeosu City Hall! And parking was supposed to be easy too, so I went to check it out myself. The first thing I noticed on arrival was the neatly kept parking area. When you're moving around as a family, parking really matters. Easy parking from the start put me in a good mood.

Walking inside, the space felt open and generally pleasant. Checking the menu board, the prices were really reasonable too.

How much does the Tongkeun Shabu all-you-can-eat cost?

Weekday lunch was ₩23,900, and dinner, weekends, and holidays were ₩26,900. Elementary school kids like ours were just ₩10,000, so this seemed hard to beat for a family meal budget.

With prices these days being so high across the board, it's not easy to find an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu place near Yeosu City Hall with both good spread and affordable prices — this felt like a satisfying choice.

How fresh are the shabu-shabu meat and broth?

Once we got settled and started bringing food to the table — true to an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu spot near Yeosu City Hall, the vegetables were varied and looked really fresh.

Fresh shabu-shabu vegetables including bean sprouts and bok choy

Bean sprouts, napa cabbage, bok choy, mushrooms — every ingredient for the broth looked fresh, and just looking at it made me feel healthier haha. The broth was light but had good depth. Blanching the meat lightly and eating it with vegetables made it go down so smoothly that our chopsticks kept reaching back for more.

The meat was good enough that it was hard to believe it was all-you-can-eat. Everyone's chopsticks kept moving nonstop.

Loading up the hot broth with plenty of meat and vegetables was really filling. I also had fun making rice paper wraps and dipping them in different sauce combinations to my taste.

What's on the salad bar: sushi, fried dishes and more

Honestly, when a place is known for its shabu-shabu, I don't usually expect much from the side dishes. But seeing the salad bar changed my mind.

From sushi to fresh salads and all kinds of cooked dishes, there was quite a lot of variety.

An assortment of crispy fried dishes

My husband especially kept raving that this place is a fried-food spot. Crispy outside, moist inside, with several kinds of fried dishes on offer. He kept going back for plate after plate even while saying he was full — if you're visiting Tongkeun Shabu, the all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu spot near Yeosu City Hall, I'd say the fried food is a must-try too, not just the shabu-shabu.

Kid-friendly dishes from the salad bar

Beyond the fried food, there were plenty of appetite-whetting salads and kid-friendly dishes too. So it was easy for our kid to pick and choose her own favorites.

Is Tongkeun Shabu worth it for a whole family?

There was even dessert to finish the meal. Thanks to that, we didn't even need to head to a café afterward. After the sweet finish, we were completely full — but a happy kind of full, and the whole family was satisfied.
