Friends' night out at a Yongin bar: tteokjjim with ramen, Bacha Suji

Bacha Suji Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 4 of Suji-gu Office Station, so it's not hard to find. It's set slightly off the main road, so first-timers should keep an eye out for the sign.

For reference, they're open Sunday through Thursday from 17:00 to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 17:00 until late. There seemed to be waits on weekends, so going early is probably a good idea.

We actually arrived a bit late and were nervous the place would be full. As you'd expect from a popular bar near Suji-gu Office, walking in without a reservation can mean waiting, so I'd recommend calling ahead or booking through Naver Reservation.

Inside, blue-toned walls paired with dim lighting gave Bacha Suji Branch a stylish bar feel. There's a bar table as well as table seating good for groups, so you can pick a spot depending on your party size.

The soft lighting also makes for pretty photos, and it really leaned into the feel of a proper gastropub for having a drink. It works for a date night as a couple and just as well for a lively gathering with friends — a space that adapts to different kinds of get-togethers.

Ordering was easy — done through a tablet kiosk at the table.

The signature dishes were the Bacha seafood boil at ₩35,000 and the instant chadolbagi seafood tteokjjim at ₩26,000. Beyond that, there was a good variety of other options too, like the sous vide pork jowl salad and spicier anju (drinking snacks). Prices were reasonable for a gastropub, so we could order a few things without worrying too much.

The instant chadolbagi seafood tteokjjim we ordered came with beef brisket, seafood, and tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) ingredients together, and the broth was rich and spicy — a great match for drinks.

The sous vide pork jowl salad came with pork jowl, chive salad, wasabi, and pink salt, and the distinct savory texture of the pork jowl really stood out.

Picking up a thinly sliced piece of pork jowl and dipping it lightly in pink salt, the juiciness and saltiness worked really well together. Eating it with the chive salad kept it from feeling greasy and made it taste refreshing.

A light dip in the wasabi added a sharp kick that paired really well with drinks. One downside — since it's a popular dish, it can come out a bit slowly on weekend evenings. Still, the taste itself was satisfying, and the portion was generous enough to share among several people.

It paired well with draft beer as an anju, and clinking glasses together for a toast was the highlight of the get-together. Everyone in our group said they wanted to come back again, which says a lot about how good a time we had.

Overall, Bacha Suji Branch was solidly satisfying across atmosphere, taste, and service. You could feel the care put into each dish, and the menu pairs really well with drinks, so I'd recommend it as a place for get-togethers.
