Anyang Gwanyang-dong grilled fish: pink salt oven mackerel set

In short

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is an oven-grilled fish restaurant on the first floor of the Kids Mom Center at the Anyang Stadium intersection, between Gwanyang-dong and Bisan-dong in Anyang. The writer's family ordered the spicy pork set and the oven-grilled mackerel set with brown rice, dipped the mackerel in premium Himalayan pink salt, and mixed a bibimbap (mixed rice) from the self-serve bar. With plenty of seating, Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch suits both family meals and larger group gatherings.

Today I'm introducing Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch, where I had a hearty meal with my family in Bisan-dong, Anyang. Grilling fish at home is always a hassle — the smell, the cleanup — so I was glad to find a place where you can enjoy grilled fish neatly outside. It's located in the Kids Mom Center at the Anyang Stadium intersection, so it's easy to find and parking is available, which made it a solid choice for a family meal!

Visiting Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch in Bisan-dong, Anyang

Where is it? Right by the Anyang Stadium intersection

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is in the Kids Mom Center building near the Anyang Stadium intersection. It's on a main road so it's easy to get to, and I liked that we could visit by car.

That said, since there's a kids' café in the same building, the parking lot can get a bit crowded on weekends or at times when lots of kids are around. When we visited, parking wasn't super spacious either. But then again, I realized this could actually be a great combo — kids play their hearts out at the kids' café, then everyone heads over to Hwaddeugeuro for a meal! Haha. That kind of flow actually matters a lot when you're eating out with kids :)

Bright, clean interior with room for group gatherings

Maybe because it's a fairly new place, Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch had a clean, bright atmosphere overall. You might picture a grilled fish restaurant as a bit rustic, but the interior was brighter and cleaner than expected, so it didn't feel awkward to bring kids along.

And above all, there are quite a lot of tables! With plenty of seating, it looked like a good spot not just for family meals but also for group gatherings with several people.

More than grilled fish: what's on the menu

With a name like Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo, I naturally assumed it was just grilled fish, but the menu turned out to be quite diverse. Beyond grilled mackerel, Atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, and hairtail, there's spicy pork, egg soup, tteokgalbi, pizza, and more — so even someone who says "I'm not really into grilled fish..." wouldn't feel limited on options.

It's also a plus that there are choices for kids. They have a kids' mackerel set and kids' tteokgalbi on the menu, which makes it well-suited for family visits.

What we ordered, and why we chose brown rice

That day we ordered the spicy pork set and the oven-grilled mackerel set. We could choose between white and brown rice, and I picked brown rice without hesitation. These days, I try to eat a little healthier even when going out for a meal, haha. Maybe it's a mom's minimal guilt-relief for eating out so often? ^^;;

Oh, and here's a tip — you can also grab white rice from the self-serve corner, so you can order brown rice and still add white rice on the side!

How generous are the spicy pork and mackerel sets?

A generous spread of the spicy pork set

The first thing that caught my eye when the food arrived was the generous portion of pork! And the mackerel was surprisingly large too. I expected a grilled fish set to be just one fish with rice and a few side dishes, but once it was all laid out, it turned into a pretty hearty spread.

The pork came with a sweet, spicy sauce, so we wrapped rice and meat together in lettuce and ate it heartily. Need I say more about that combo, haha. Pile some pork on a wrap, add a bit of rice, take a big bite — the kind of flavor that keeps your hand reaching back for more!

Moist oven-grilled mackerel dipped in Himalayan pink salt

And now for today's main event — the grilled mackerel! It was a good size and the flesh was moist and well-cooked. Mackerel can easily turn dry if grilled wrong, but this one was moist, and it tasted great on top of a spoonful of rice.

It was seasoned just right, so it was good to eat plain, and it also paired well with the accompanying soybean paste soup. Warm brown rice, a piece of mackerel on top, a spoonful of soup on the side — this kind of Korean spread never gets old.

There was premium Himalayan pink salt on the table, so I dipped the mackerel in it — and wow. It was my first time dipping grilled mackerel in salt, and it was heavenly! Such a new experience^^ You should definitely try it, haha.

The self-serve bar: japchae, tteokbokki and sungnyung

And here's the part I personally loved — the self-serve bar. Beyond the basic side dishes, you could freely help yourself to a variety of food at the self-serve bar. There was japchae, tteokbokki, sungnyung, and more, so while waiting for the main dish it was great to grab little bits with the kids. I was pleasantly surprised there was even tteokbokki, haha.

Mixing our own bibimbap at the self-serve bar

The thing we had the most fun with at the self-serve bar was the bibimbap. There were various seasoned vegetables and bibimbap ingredients set out for making your own, plus sesame oil — so we ended up making ourselves a proper bibimbap after a while.^^

Add a bunch of vegetables to the rice, drizzle a little sesame oil, mix it all up — done! The meal felt quite substantial since it wasn't just about the main dish but also using the self-serve bar to the fullest.

A Bisan-dong restaurant that works with kids

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch has a clean space, plenty of seating, and a varied menu, making it look like a solid choice for family meals or group gatherings. Especially for those like me looking for a place to eat with kids, it's worth noting there's a kids' café in the Kids Mom Center to combine with your visit.

Let the kids play their hearts out at the basement kids' café, then head straight up for grilled fish and pork! Next time we're at the kids' café, I'll definitely grab lunch or dinner at Hwaddeugeuro. If you're in Bisan-dong looking for a hearty Korean meal with the family, it's worth a visit :) Thanks for the meal today too♡
