On a weekday lunch, craving something a little different from my usual go-tos, I headed to Gang's Duck, a well-known spot near Suwon City Hall. I'd been there once before, but I'd never tried their signature Peking duck, so I'd been looking forward to this visit — and on top of that, I ordered the lunch-only spicy eggplant rice bowl too!!

Since Peking duck seemed like the kind of dish you shouldn't just walk in and order on a whim, we made a reservation beforehand.

Inside Gang's Duck: exotic interior and wide tables

Gang's Duck has a different vibe from your typical Chinese restaurant right from the exterior. There's a wooden deck area near the entrance with an exotic feel, so it's easy to find even on a first visit.

Once inside, the dark lighting and exotic interior catch your eye first. The overall atmosphere feels a bit like stepping into a restaurant in Hong Kong or Taiwan, but without being too flashy — it felt comfortable.

Most of all, the space was bigger than I expected. The tables weren't cramped together and everything felt neatly arranged, which made for a comfortable meal.

If you're the type who cares about atmosphere as much as food when picking a spot in Ingye-dong, this is a solid choice.

During the day it's easy-going and great for lunch, but with the dark lighting, I imagine it takes on a whole different vibe in the evening.

For those looking for a Suwon restaurant for a date or a gathering, this place would fit right in!

What we ordered for weekday lunch at Gang's Duck, and the prices

Gang's Duck's signature dish is Peking duck. If a whole duck feels like too much, you can order a half, which made it easy to pair with another dish.

On weekdays there's also a lunch menu, so we ordered the spicy eggplant rice bowl alongside it.

If you're looking for a lunch spot near Suwon City Hall, the lunch menu alone is enough, but if it's your first visit, I'd recommend also trying the signature Peking duck.

Half Peking duck, 39,000 won: the skin is the point

The moment the Peking duck arrived, the smell was amazing!! That savory roasted duck aroma hit right away, and the phrase 'smells delicious' fit perfectly.

The meat wasn't dry at all — it was tender, and what I especially loved was the skin. Thin, crispy, and just a joy to bite into.

The moist meat and the crackly skin came through together, so it was delicious even on its own. But of course, Peking duck is best wrapped.

You put the duck meat on a thin pancake, add cucumber and scallion, top it with sauce, and pop it all in your mouth in one bite.

The chewy pancake, tender duck, crisp vegetables, and that salty-sweet sauce all coming together in one bite — I kept reaching for more.

I don't eat Peking duck often, but I ate this without feeling heavy or greasy at all — it was genuinely delicious.

Right as we were finishing up, they brought out some fried bits too! Maybe fried with cumin? I got a slight lamb-like feel from it haha

The crispy skin still had some meat attached, so it was fun to pick apart and eat.

This is a good place to remember when you want something a little special in Suwon.

Lunch-only spicy eggplant rice bowl, 11,000 won: crisp outside, soft inside

Personally, the spicy eggplant rice bowl satisfied me just as much as the Peking duck.

The eggplant is fried crispy on the outside, but bite into it and the inside is moist and soft. It had that exact crispy-outside-tender-inside texture people talk about. Even people who don't like the usual mushy texture of eggplant could probably eat this without any issue.

The rice comes with a sauce that's slightly spicy, so it never got tiring even after several bites. Eating the crispy eggplant and rice, then wrapping in some Peking duck in between — that combination was really great.

If Peking duck is on the savory, mild side, the spicy eggplant rice bowl is bold and spicy — they kind of fill in what the other lacks.

If you asked me to order two dishes at Gang's Duck in Ingye-dong again, I'd pick this exact combo one more time haha

Do you need a reservation at Gang's Duck? Waiting and seating

We made a reservation ahead for weekday lunch and walked straight in with no wait. Peking duck takes time to prepare, so if that's your target dish, it's best to confirm the menu when you book.

The restaurant was spacious and clean, which made the meal comfortable, and the tables were wide enough to spread out multiple dishes without feeling cramped.

When looking for a restaurant near Suwon City Hall, I care about the overall condition of the space as much as the food, and this checked that box too.

Savory Peking duck with spicy eggplant: why they work together

The signature Peking duck had tender meat and crispy skin, exceeding my expectations, and the lunch spicy eggplant rice bowl had more presence than just a side dish.

The two dishes didn't overlap in flavor, so it was fun switching back and forth between them.

Next time, I'd order the exact same combo again — half Peking duck and the spicy eggplant rice bowl!!

Final verdict on Gang's Duck in Ingye-dong, Suwon

Gang's Duck has that special appeal of Peking duck itself, but it wasn't as intimidating or high-pressure a restaurant as I expected.

At lunch, you can enjoy it comfortably with the lunch menu, and in the evening, with the dark lighting, it seems like a great fit for anyone looking for a restaurant or date spot in Ingye-dong.

The space is spacious enough for groups, so I'd recommend it for family meals, friend gatherings, or dinners with coworkers too.
