Inside, black and bold red combine into a sleek, chic interior that immediately grabs your attention. It strips away the heaviness of a traditional Chinese restaurant and fills the space with a hip, modern sensibility — the space itself has a trendy charm all its own.

Dongpo-yuk / mapo tofu rice bowl / black vinegar cucumber salad — order complete!

How quickly did the dongpo-yuk, mapo tofu bowl and cucumber salad arrive?
On this visit we ordered dongpo-yuk, black vinegar cucumber salad, and mapo tofu! The food came out much faster than expected. Not long after we sat down and ordered, the dishes started arriving one by one — this place would work well for a quick lunch too.
Why the dongpo-yuk at Gang's Duck tastes so smoky
The dish I enjoyed the most, hands down, was the dongpo-yuk.

The vegetables served alongside the dongpo-yuk seemed to be stir-fried separately, giving off quite a strong smoky char. The meat kept that signature soft texture dongpo-yuk is known for. The melt-in-your-mouth fatty part was soft and nutty, and it paired well with the sweet soy sauce glaze.
Various spices came together here too, so it wasn't just sweet and soft — there was a harmony of different flavors. The basic taste of traditional dongpo-yuk was still there, but with spices and smoky char layered on for a bit of a twist.
I generally love food with a strong smoky char, so the dongpo-yuk was the dish I remembered most from this meal.

How sour is the black vinegar cucumber salad?
After all that rich dongpo-yuk, it was nice to switch things up with the black vinegar cucumber salad in between bites. I expected the cucumber salad to be really sour, but thanks to the black vinegar, it was surprisingly mild rather than sharp.

It had a subtle, refreshing tang, making it great to pair with the other dishes.

What does the mapo tofu rice bowl at Gang's Duck taste like?
We also ordered mapo tofu, and this too felt a bit different from the mapo tofu you'd typically know. With a mix of various spices, the flavor and aroma weren't one-note — every bite spread out a variety of harmonious flavors. The spiciness, umami, and the distinct spice aroma didn't stick out individually but blended together into a rich overall taste.

The essence of traditional mapo tofu was still there, but the combination of spices and ingredients made it feel a bit unique. I think this is what made Gang's Duck feel more like fusion Chinese than traditional Chinese cuisine to me.
Small details that stood out: the house tea and pickled radish
Even basics like the tea and pickled radish weren't served carelessly — there was a subtle care to them that made me feel well taken care of. I loved the food, but it's these small details that stuck with me the longest.
You might think only the main dishes matter, but these small touches made the whole meal so much more enjoyable.
Next time, I definitely have to come back for the Peking duck!!

Who should eat at Gang's Duck in Suwon?
This is the perfect spot for anyone who felt that classic dishes like dongpo-yuk or Peking duck required a big commitment at a fancy Chinese restaurant. By lowering the barrier of price and atmosphere, it makes it easy to enjoy sophisticated fusion Chinese food anytime, without the pressure.
If you're looking for an exotic yet trendy dining experience in Suwon, I genuinely recommend this place.
