Seongsu gyukatsu restaurant: medium striploin, demi-glace, Gyuen Dang
In short
Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) restaurant on the second floor, a short walk from Seongsu Station Exits 3 and 4 in Seongdong, Seoul. A married couple ordered one striploin gyukatsu at 19,000 won and one brie cheese omelet rice at 23,000 won and shared both, grilling the striploin to medium in melted butter on a personal tabletop brazier and cutting into a soft omelet with a whole block of brie inside. Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch suits a visit for two who want to taste both the gyukatsu and the omelet rice in one sitting.

Gyuen Dang, a Seongsu spot known for gyukatsu (beef cutlet) — a place that nailed both the gyukatsu and the omelet rice 🖤
My husband and I hadn't had a date in Seongsu in a while! We were debating what to eat when he said he wanted gyukatsu again, so off we went — and it was genuinely delicious. Even the omelet rice I ordered was so good I want to go back. Here's my honest review of Gyuen Dang, a gyukatsu place in Seongsu. We tried both of the signature dishes, so I'll go through the taste notes on each in detail.

Where is Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch, and where do you park?
📍 Near Seongsu Station Exits 3 and 4 🅿️ Parking at a nearby public lot
Gyuen Dang is within walking distance of both Seongsu Station Exits 3 and 4. Parking is tricky given the neighborhood, as you'd expect from Seongsu, so keep that in mind before you head over.

⏰ Hours Weekdays 11:00 - 21:30 Weekday break time 15:00 - 17:00 Weekends 11:30 - 22:00
Worth checking the hours before you go. No break time on weekends, which makes weekend visits a lot more convenient.

Gyuen Dang is famous enough in Seongsu that it's since opened branches elsewhere, but this Seongsu location is the main branch — worth noting! The original is always the best one, right? So I was already excited before we even ate.

Inside Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch: mood and solo dining seats
The interior is clean and genuinely feels like you've stepped into Japan! Why fly all the way to Japan when you can just come to Gyuen Dang in Seongsu — the whole vibe really transported me. I've had gyukatsu in Japan a few times, and this was exactly that atmosphere, which made it even better. There are solo dining seats too, so it's a comfortable spot to eat alone if you want.

What two people ordered at Gyuen Dang, and what it cost
✔️ Striploin gyukatsu ₩19,000 ✔️ Brie cheese omelet rice ₩23,000
We ordered one gyukatsu and one omelet rice each — but we basically shared both. The catch was both dishes turned out delicious.
So how did the striploin gyukatsu and brie omelet rice actually taste?!

Striploin gyukatsu, 19,000 won: marbling and the full set
The signature dish at Gyuen Dang — the gyukatsu. Between tenderloin and striploin, I went with striploin for the extra nuttiness, and the visual was incredible. It arrived as one complete set, giving it a really polished feel.

Is the marbling on that neatly sliced cross-section even real? The visual is honestly overwhelming 🥹 The breading is golden, thin, and crispy, and the striploin underneath has marbling as pretty as tuna belly! All you have to do is grill it as is — easy and delicious.

The striploin gyukatsu comes with rice and soup to pair with it, plus fresh wasabi, pink salt, gyukatsu sauce, and salad — a nice variety. Everything except the gyukatsu itself can be refilled if you run out, so keep that in mind while eating.

How to grill the striploin with butter on the personal brazier
There's real charm in grilling the gyukatsu yourself on the little personal grill on the table! You can grill it plain, but doing it in butter is the way to go. Once the stone plate heats up and the butter starts to melt, just place the gyukatsu on the personal grill and cook it.

The second it hits the stone plate there's a sizzle, and the butter aroma mixing with the beef scent from the gyukatsu smells incredible before you even take a bite! You grill it to whatever doneness you like — I went medium and it was perfect! You're fully in control of the doneness 〰️

Sauce, salt or wasabi: which combination tasted best
Dipping it in just the sauce alone was moving..! You can really feel the crispness of the breading, and it's not greasy at all — the nuttiness almost doubles. The breading is so thin and crispy it's addictive, and the meat itself is unbelievably tender 🥹

Since it's made with striploin, known among beef cuts for rich juiciness and aroma, the umami builds the more you chew. Even just dipped in salt alone, it's genuinely delicious.

My favorite combo is a bit of pink salt and fresh wasabi on top, eaten with rice! The salt brings out the flavor of the striploin, and the fresh wasabi cuts through any richness in the beef — the combination is absolutely perfect.

Brie cheese omelet rice, 23,000 won: a whole block of brie inside
A cloud-like omelet meets brie cheese! Not just a regular Japanese-style omelet rice — this comes with an entire block of brie cheese tucked inside. The moment I saw it I thought, this is the one! And ordering it turned out to be the right call.

Underneath the omelet sits a thick, generous block of brie cheese — the whole thing intact. Honestly a stunning visual. Sandwiched between the hot rice and the omelet, it was slowly melting into something warm and soft ~

Cut through the middle of the omelet and, under a very thin outer layer, soft-set egg comes spilling out! It really does pour out — the visual is incredible. Truly a properly made omelet rice.
🎥 For the real experience, check out the video of the omelet rice at Gyuen Dang. Video is always more real than photos. We made a point of filming the moment we cut the omelet rice lengthwise. Watching it back just makes me want to eat it again ~!

The demi-glace sauce comes on the side
The demi-glace sauce for the omelet comes separately, so you drizzle as much as you like over the omelet yourself. The demi-glace sauce had such great depth of flavor. The concentrated umami was genuinely on point... 🥹 The omelet rice literally melts in your mouth.

Unlike a typical omelet rice, the brie cheese makes it richer and softer! The salty, deep flavor unique to brie pairs beautifully with both the demi-glace sauce and the omelet rice, amplifying the nuttiness. Definitely try the brie omelet rice!
Is Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch worth a second visit?
If you're looking for a proper gyukatsu spot in Seongsu, I'd recommend Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch — both the gyukatsu and the omelet rice were delicious. Both dishes were great, and the quality for the price was so good that I'd happily go back.
