Weekday lunch gamssadak set for two: Gangnam dakgalbi at Dakgalbijeon

In short

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a dakgalbi (stir-fried chicken) and jeon (Korean savory pancake) restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul. Arriving at 12:30pm on a weekday, the writer ordered the gamssadak set for two at 36,000 won and added udon noodles for 3,000 won, and the dakgalbi came out of the kitchen fully stir-fried, so there was no waiting to eat. At around 12,000 won a person, Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a filling, good-value lunch by Gangnam standards.

A full spread of dakgalbi at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch

Today's a Gangnam Station restaurant post! I don't usually have reasons to come to Gangnam, but since I was here I wanted something filling for lunch, so I stopped by Dakgalbijeon (닭갈비전). Considering how brutal Gangnam prices can be, I found a genuinely great value spot!! Let me write up a review.

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch: location, parking and hours

📍Location: 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station! 📍Parking: 1 hour free in the underground lot 📍Hours: 11:00-22:00 📍Reservations: Naver reservations only available for 4 or more people!

How to find the building from Sinnonhyeon Station

Stairs leading up to Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch from Sinnonhyeon Station

We walked over, and the location can be a bit tricky to find~! It's easiest if you come to the front entrance of the <Seocho Prugio Summit 2nd Complex> apartment building — the stairs up are right there.

Entrance to Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch on the second floor

This is the shop entrance. We visited at 12:30pm, and it was already packed with people?! Must be a popular spot, haha. Once you see the menu, you'll understand why.

Waiting line marker posted in front of the entrance

There's even a waiting line marker posted... yep, definitely a popular place haha. Lately I feel like the places that specialize in just a few menu items tend to have a higher success rate.

What the restaurant is like at 12:30pm on a weekday

Interior of Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch full of lunchtime customers

That spatula is mine!!!!! (Here 'mine' seems to mean the owner's, haha. More on why later!) So many people were already enjoying their meal before us..

The cozy bar-like atmosphere of the dining hall

The moment we stepped inside, it felt like... one of those bars we used to hang out at in college?? Hahaha, it had a cozy, familiar vibe. Maybe it's because everyone was gathered close together eating, haha. (Oh, and the owner is super friendly too, haha)

Receipt and notification event signage on the table

Once we sat down, we noticed there are events too??? Receipt and notification events, and even a service for women's tables hahaha. Just FYI.

What we ordered at Dakgalbijeon and what it cost

Gamssadak set for two: ₩36,000 Added udon noodles: ₩3,000

Main menu board at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch

The name itself is [Dakgalbijeon] and the main menu is dakgalbi + jeon... (living up to the name, 100 points). Honestly it's a combination I'd never tried before! But I love dakgalbi, I love jeon... I love it all. Pair it with makgeolli and I'm basically done for.

Price list showing dakgalbi at ₩12,000 per serving

You know how Gangnam and Nonhyeon have this reputation of 'everything's expensive'? We thought the same... so we wondered what to eat, but the prices here are so nice!!!! Dakgalbi at ₩12,000 per person... a value spot like this in Gangnam is rare, right?!?! (Noodles aren't included, so you'll need to add them separately!)

Side menu board listing potato, kimchi, and scallion pancakes

Check out the rest of the sides too — need I say more, potato pancake, kimchi pancake, scallion pancake... it can cover a regular meal, a gathering, or a second-round drinking spot, all in one. Is the owner really passionate about drinks? There's even nurungju (scorched-rice liquor)!!

Anju-focused set menu and nurungju liquor signage

There are also anju (drinking snack)-focused set menus available for after your meal, perfect for cracking open a drink. We skipped it since it was daytime, haha.

Gamssadak set for two: dakgalbi that arrives fully stir-fried

The finished gamssadak set for two, fully stir-fried dakgalbi

This is what we ordered. The biggest advantage here is that it comes out already fully cooked! And fast too! (The spatula belongs to the owner)

Basic side dishes of pickled radish and danmuji

The basic side dishes are pickled radish wraps and danmuji, and you can add extra sides yourself.

Dakgalbi hot plate with added udon noodles

All you have to do now is eat this deliciously made dish. It's dakgalbi that nails the basics! And there's a generous amount of meat! We were so full after eating we nearly died.

Ahh, so satisfying, so satisfying.

Wrapping the dakgalbi in perilla potato pancake

Crispy fried perilla-leaf potato pancake

And this perilla-leaf potato pancake! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and delicious dipped in soy sauce too.

Wrapping dakgalbi in perilla-leaf potato pancake

Wrapping the dakgalbi in it like this is delicious too!

Wow~~~ the meat wasn't dry at all, and there was zero gamey smell... The udon noodles were so thick and plump, it really felt like a satisfying, filling meal.

The dakgalbi hot plate stirred with a spatula

The spatula is mine.

The empty hot plate after finishing the meal

After we finished eating... we ate so well. If you're really passing through Gangnam, I highly, highly recommend it!! Next time I really want to try it with makgeolli.. Looking at these photos again is making me hungry, so I'll stop here haha.
