Frozen shoulder massage in Jeonju: full-body care at Rebody & Beauty

In short

Rebody & Beauty is a body-care and full-body management studio that recently relocated to Hyoja-dong in Jeonju. Visiting with a right shoulder so tight the arm barely rotated, the writer filled out a consultation form, had a foot-grounding check and Before photos taken, then received a 2.5-hour, hands-only premium full-body treatment running from toes to shoulder with gua sha worked in by hand. It hurt like nothing before, but the shoulder felt looser right after, and the body still felt lighter a week later.

From hips to shoulder: why I went in for treatment

I've been walking a lot more lately for some reason. My hips were already occasionally uncomfortable, but recently that discomfort started reaching all the way down to my ankles, and my usual lower back pain suddenly crept up into my back and shoulder blades too... ㅠㅠ

Explaining hip and lower back discomfort

On top of that, I must have slept wrong, because my right shoulder acted up badly too. Not just stiff — my shoulder barely rotated when I tried to move my arm. That's when I thought, okay, I really need a proper treatment session.

So I ended up going to Rebody & Beauty in Jeonju! It used to be in Songcheon-dong but recently moved to Hyoja-dong, so now you get an even cleaner, more spacious studio~

How does the pre-treatment consultation work?

I didn't just walk in and start the treatment right away. First I filled out a consultation form about where I usually feel discomfort. I checked off areas like hips, lower back, back and shoulders, and told the director what kind of pain I was feeling. But that didn't mean she only checked the spots I mentioned and focused solely on those.

According to the director, since the whole body is connected, she looks at overall body condition rather than just one area. And I found out while chatting that she used to work as a physical therapist and also has experience in skin care.

She said she now draws on that experience to do full-body management that looks at overall body shape. Maybe that's why, even during the consultation, she asked quite detailed questions about how I usually feel discomfort, instead of just confirming the sore spot and moving on. Premium full-body management: 2.5 hours, all by hand

Honestly, just looking at the price, Rebody & Beauty is on the pricier side compared to a regular massage shop. I felt a bit hesitant about it at first too, but the treatment I got was a full 2.5-hour premium full-body session, and more importantly, it wasn't done with machines — the director handled everything herself from start to finish.

So it felt different from a typical Thai massage or aroma massage that just kneads your body for a relaxing feel. What I felt was more like — she found and released, one by one, every tight, knotted spot across my entire body. What really surprised me was that she didn't start with the shoulder, even though that's why I came in!

Foot-grounding check and Before photos

Before starting the actual treatment, the first thing she checked was how my feet touched the floor. When you're just standing, you honestly have no idea which side you're putting more weight on or how much of your sole is actually touching the ground. So she checked that first,

and then took Before photos of my whole body to compare with my condition before the body-shape management. Back, side, and front shots — seeing them all laid out made things like uneven shoulder height or left-right body differences visible in a way I'd never noticed before. Since my right shoulder was especially bad, I felt extra self-conscious while the photos were being taken ㅠㅠ

Treatment order: toes to shoulder

And finally, the treatment began! I obviously assumed my right shoulder was the sorest, so she'd focus only on loosening that. But instead, she first checked the shoulder's condition, then moved down to the legs — toes → calves → thighs → sides → ribs → armpits → and back up to the shoulder again, connecting the whole body in sequence.

Honestly, at first I wanted the shoulder and legs worked on since those hurt, but I wondered why on earth she was doing the sides and ribs too? But once I experienced it, it felt like she wasn't looking at one area in isolation — she was releasing connected parts of the whole body together!

Especially since I've been walking so much lately, my usual hip discomfort seemed to extend all the way to my ankles, and my lower back discomfort had crept up to my back and shoulder blades too. Working up from the legs, I realized it wasn't just about the shoulder and legs after all. Even areas I never paid much attention to, like my toes or calves, turned out to be way more knotted up than I expected once she actually worked on them.

Gua sha treatment — does it really hurt that much?

From here on, this is the real honest review, haha. I usually think of myself as someone who tolerates pain pretty well. I like a strong massage and figured I could handle just about anything... but this gua sha was a kind of pain I'd never felt in my life, hahaha. No machines were used — the director worked everything by hand, and depending on the area, she used gua sha alongside it.

Seriously, every single spot hurt even with just a finger's touch, and my calves and thighs hurt too, but the pain definitely intensified the higher up she went — sides, armpits, shoulder!

Hands-on treatment using gua sha

But the strange thing was, while she was working on an area it hurt enough to make me angry, but once she finished that spot, there was barely any lingering throb or soreness. Move to the next area and it's back to totally fine, hahahahaha.

So yes, it genuinely hurt, but I could clearly feel that this was a treatment methodically releasing the entire body over more than two hours!

Why work the whole body when it's the shoulder that hurts?

What impressed me most about this session was that she didn't just treat the one uncomfortable spot.

Returning to the shoulder area at the end of the treatment

I told her my right shoulder was the most uncomfortable, but instead of only working on the shoulder over and over, she connected the treatment from the legs through the sides and armpits, and finished by thoroughly releasing the shoulder area again at the end.

I used to think that if your shoulder hurts, you obviously just work on the shoulder, but after this treatment, I came to think that you shouldn't just manage the knotted spot — it needs to be a full-body approach.

A week later: how's the shoulder now?

For nearly a week, my shoulder was so tight that even tying my hair back was hard, but after just one premium session, I could feel my shoulder was noticeably more comfortable right on the spot.

Of course, it would be a lie to say one treatment fixed everything completely, but at least looking at how my body feels right now, it's definitely much lighter than before. I'm not sure how long this will last, but even a week after the treatment, my body still feels light and my shoulder rotates comfortably :)
