What Bacha Suji Branch is like inside

I liked the vibe of the place from the moment I walked in, and it turns out Bacha has a bit of a special backstory. Apparently Bacha was created by an 8-year developer and UX designer, someone for whom after-work drinks and team dinners were basically the only fun in life, who quit the job after long deliberation to build this space himself. And the Suji branch has already been open for over 5 years since it first opened.

He made it because he wanted a stylish bar in Suji — the neighborhood he used to hang around in his twenties — without having to travel all the way to Hongdae or Seongsu. Reading that story made me understand why the place feels the way it does.

It doesn't feel like a place that just sells drinks and side dishes — it feels like it was built to be somewhere you can stop by after work and enjoy good food and drinks comfortably.

First up, the brisket seafood tteokjjim. It's a dish with beef brisket, seafood, and rice cakes, so once the broth starts boiling, the smell alone gets your appetite going. The savory brisket and the clean, refreshing seafood flavor work well together, and picking out the chewy rice cakes as you go makes it a great side dish for drinking.

The dish that personally impressed me most that day was the sous vide pork jowl with chive salad. The pork jowl itself was tender and delicious, but the chive salad that comes with it went really well with it. And what was even better — they gave us an extra round of chive salad without us asking! The chive salad tends to disappear fast while you're eating the pork jowl, so it was great to have plenty to go with it.

Is Bacha's cream draft beer worth ordering?

The Bacha cream draft beer was also great. 🍺 Even when the food is good, it's a bit of a letdown if the draft beer isn't, but this time it was cold and smooth and paired really well with the food.

Most of all, the staff were kind, which put me in a good mood, and the overall atmosphere of the place was comfortable. There are plenty of bars near Suji-gu Office, but if you're after somewhere with a vibe good for chatting over delicious food rather than a place that's just loud drinking, Bacha is a solid choice. It's good for a light drink with friends, good for dinner-and-drinks after work, and good for a group ordering several dishes to share.
