Tenderloin gyukatsu five ways at an early Gwanggyo lunch: Gyuen-dang
In short
Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu (beef cutlet) and omurice restaurant on the basement level of Avenue France in Gwanggyo, Suwon. Two of us came for an early lunch, shared hambagu omurice and tenderloin gyukatsu, and grilled the beef ourselves at the table, changing the flavour five ways: plain, butter, wasabi, salt and the house special sauce. Parking is covered for 4 hours, and by the time we left almost every seat at Gyuen-dang was taken.

I went to Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch for lunch in Gwanggyo this time. Today I'll walk through everything from the interior to the dishes I tried at this Gwanggyo restaurant for lunch.

We drove that day and went down to the Avenue France parking lot.

This is the entrance you see after parking and riding the escalator up. We went a bit early for lunch, so we were able to walk in fairly comfortably at first. By the way, Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch supports a whopping 4 hours of parking!!
Inside Gyuen-dang: interior and seating
Walking into Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch, there was a separate waiting area too.

The tables were arranged neatly.

There were tables for four, larger group tables, and spots that worked well for solo dining, haha.

If you order gyukatsu, you grill it yourself at the table, so each table was set up to hold a brazier.

We looked around the interior while waiting for our order.

What we ordered that day was hambagu (Japanese-style hamburger steak) omurice and tenderloin gyukatsu! We decided to share both.
Hambagu omurice with a whole patty on top
Gyuen-dang's hambagu omurice comes with instructions for eating it in a tastier way rather than just digging in right away, so we followed the guide.

Here's the hambagu omurice as it arrived! Doesn't the fluffy, soft egg on top already look delicious?

Looking closely, you can see the hambagu peeking out under the egg. It wasn't just a small piece tucked in — the whole patty was sitting on top, which made it look more filling than I expected.

Following the instructions, I carefully cut down the middle with a knife. Watching the egg spread open was part of the fun of eating omurice, haha. Pour the sauce over so it flows down, and it's ready to eat!

I scooped up egg, hambagu, sauce and rice all together. First off, the egg was really soft. Having the whole patty in there made it filling too, and most of all the sauce paired really well with the omurice. Sweet yet soft egg, plus hambagu and sauce together — this was a dish I kept going back to spoonful after spoonful.
Tenderloin gyukatsu grilled at the table, tasted five ways
Next up, Gyuen-dang's tenderloin gyukatsu! There were instructions for enjoying this one too, so we followed along, haha.

The gyukatsu came out sliced into thick pieces, neatly arranged.

Up close it looked even more appetizing, so we started grilling right away on the brazier.

We lit the brazier and waited for the grill plate to heat up,

then grilled the gyukatsu piece by piece to our liking. Trying it, the tenderloin had a soft texture, and grilling it fresh piece by piece meant we could enjoy it warm the whole time.

Can you see the juices from the meat? Most of all, it was fun that you could enjoy it in several different ways instead of just one.

First we grilled it plain, then following the guide, we put butter on the grill plate and cooked the gyukatsu that way. The butter aroma soaked into the meat and added a nutty richness.

Then we added a bit of wasabi,
then tried it with a little salt too,

and finally dipped it in the special sauce. Even though we only ordered one tenderloin gyukatsu, we got to switch flavors one after another — plain grilled, grilled with butter, wasabi, salt, then special sauce — so it never got boring and was fun to eat all the way through.
Is Gyuen-dang worth it for lunch in Gwanggyo?
Looking for a place to eat lunch in Gwanggyo led me to Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch this time. The tenderloin gyukatsu I tried was soft, being tenderloin, and I liked being able to grill it myself on the brazier and pair it with butter, wasabi, salt, and the special sauce in so many different ways.
The hambagu omurice stood out for its soft egg and the whole patty on top. The sauce in particular went so well with the egg and hambagu that I personally kept reaching for more, haha.
We went a little early for lunch so we ate comfortably at first, but by the time we finished and were heading out, the seats were nearly all full. If you're deciding on lunch at Gwanggyo Avenue France, or want to try gyukatsu and omurice together, this one's worth keeping in mind :)
