Today I want to introduce a restaurant in Itaewon that left me happily full on deep, spicy broth.

Located near Itaewon Station (2nd floor above Alfredo Kebab on the ground floor), it's easy to find, and being open a full 24 hours makes it perfect for a late-night or early-morning visit whenever you're desperate for a hangover cure. This is Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch — a friend recommended it saying the gamjatang here is famous, so I went in with high expectations. Let's get straight into the honest review!!

Where is Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch, and what are the hours?

Being open 24 hours is truly the best!
What is on the menu at Nuri Maeul Gamjatang?

The menu boards at the entrance and inside the restaurant were laid out clearly, so even on my first visit it was easy to pick what to order. From basic hangover soups to gamjatang perfect for groups and steamed dishes, the lineup was quite full.

We ordered the mukeunji gamjatang (aged kimchi pork bone stew)~!
Inside the restaurant: seating and solo dining

Walking in, the space was much bigger and more pleasant than I expected. The tables were spaced generously and there were plenty of seats, making it look great for group gatherings or company dinners too. The bright, clean wood-tone interior made for a comfortable atmosphere to eat in.

On one side there was a neatly organized self-serve bar, so it was easy to grab whatever side dishes you needed. Overall the place was kept very clean!!

There were window seats like this too, and it's also great for solo dining!
How does the aged kimchi pork bone stew taste?

Finally, the main dish I'd been waiting for — mukeunji gamjatang — arrived! The visual alone, piled generously with mushrooms and green onions, was seriously appetizing. As the broth started bubbling, a deep, spicy aroma of aged kimchi rose up, and my anticipation was through the roof before I'd even taken a bite.

Whole, well-fermented aged kimchi was piled in generously, sliced into bite-sized pieces and simmered right in the broth. The tang and deep umami unique to aged kimchi melted straight into the soup, giving a broth that was clean yet rich, with no heaviness at all — it was really something else.
Why the sujebi add-on is a must
Once it starts bubbling, in go the sujebi (hand-torn dough noodles)!! Gamjatang really does need sujebi, right?

So chewy and so delicious!!!!

The big bone-in pieces had soft, generous amounts of meat attached. They were simmered so thoroughly that the meat slipped right off the bone with just a touch of chopsticks, and the seasoning had soaked deep into the meat, which pulled apart along its grain — so good. Pulling off the tender meat and wrapping it in well-cooked aged kimchi for one bite gave a mix of tang and savoriness that never got old! Adding in the mealy, well-cooked potatoes here and there made it a perfect combination.
Finishing the pot with fried rice

After finishing the gamjatang, there's one step you absolutely can't skip — finishing off with fried rice!
They fry the remaining rich, aged-kimchi broth with seaweed flakes and nutty sesame oil, pressing it down thin like a crispy rice crust — the nuttiness and umami exploded.

It was so addictive that even after I was full, I kept going back for more, and I scraped up the very last spoonful before leaving. If you order the mukeunji gamjatang, definitely get the fried rice too!
Final verdict on Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch
Being open 24 hours makes this a place you can drop into anytime without hesitation, and the combination of spicy, tangy aged kimchi with tender bone meat was really compelling. If you're craving hearty Korean food in Itaewon or want a deep broth to cure a hangover, I strongly recommend Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch! Make sure to finish with the fried rice too! As the weather gets cooler, eating gamjatang with the window open, looking outside, was seriously amazing!
