Late-night Seongsu café with an Einspänner choco crookie: Iridescent

These days the evenings have gotten pretty cool, perfect for walking, so that night after dinner I wandered around near Seoul Forest Station to burn off some blood sugar haha... and ended up dropping my sugar even lower 🤭🤭

I wanted something sweet and a coffee too, so I searched for a café open late and found Iridescent Seongsu.

A Seongsu café open until 10pm

Iridescent Seongsu is in the Seoul Forest 4-gil alley and stays open until 10pm. A lot of cafés near Seoul Forest close earlier than you'd expect, so finding somewhere to go late at night can be tricky — but this place stays open until 10, so it felt nice and relaxed.

I'm not sure what the vibe is like during the day, but personally I felt like coming in the evening was the right call. Walking through the cool Seongsu alleys and stepping in just made the atmosphere feel even better. It's also a café listed on the Blue Ribbon Survey, by the way 👍

Iridescent at night feels like a lounge bar

Stepping inside, the vibe was more like a lounge bar than I expected.

Overall black and wood tones are mixed together and the lighting is a bit dim, which gave it a lot of mood haha. Honestly, almost every table had a couple on a date 👩‍❤️‍👨

There were big speakers, books, magazines, mirrors and other little props scattered around, so it was fun just to look around. The vibe felt hip yet polished — genuinely perfect for a blind date — and the soft evening lighting made the whole atmosphere come alive even more 🫶🏻🫶🏻

The Iridescent menu, from coffee to dessert

The menu was really big and unusual — basic coffees like Americano and café latte, cream coffees like Einspänner, the Iridescent latte, and salty cream mocha, plus quite a variety of teas. The showcase also had other desserts like Basque cheesecake and tiramisu, and the dessert selection was so rich that if I hadn't already eaten dinner, I probably would've ordered the Basque cheesecake too...🍰

What does the perilla leaf smoothie taste like?

While looking at the menu, what caught my eye most was the perilla leaf smoothie 🥤 I'd genuinely never seen one before, so curious about the flavor, I asked and they scooped me a little taste!! It tasted like lemon sorbet with a perilla aroma on top — really intriguing.

Besides that, there were other menu items you don't often see at other cafés, like yuzu basil granita and cinnamon grapefruit granita, so I agonized for a while. But staying true to our mission of a sugar refill, I ordered a choco crookie + Einspänner. I'll save the perilla smoothie for next time 🌿

Can you bring a dog to Iridescent?

And this place allows dogs!! There are a few rules posted separately, like using designated seating and using a leash or carrier, so if you're planning to visit with your dog, it's worth checking those out! Drinking coffee surrounded by pups during the day sounds so happy 🐶🐶 (meanwhile I have none of my own...)

Seats at Iridescent and the mood of each table

We sat by the window, but there are also sofa seats, and each table had a slightly different vibe. Instead of a space that's too neatly arranged, everything felt casually placed — I really liked that 💓 Rather than the loud, bustling feel of a huge café, it had a mood that was good for sitting with coffee and talking in the evening.

What came out was cuter than I expected 🤭 A whole choco crookie sitting right on top of the Einspänner, haha. I thought it would come on a separate plate, so seeing it served together like this made me want to take photos the moment I saw it.

I tried the crookie first — crispy outside and sweet inside, exactly what we needed with our sugar levels crashed. The chocolate flavor was rich too, the kind that makes you crave coffee after one bite. I picked the salty cream option on top, so the sweet-salty combo kept it from getting cloying and I kept going back for more haha.

With the cool weather, walking around Seoul Forest and then coming into the alley to rest with a sweet dessert was really nice, and if you're looking for an atmospheric café in the evening, I highly recommend this place. The taste was great, but the nighttime café mood was so romantic that it was also perfect for a refreshing change of pace on a date.

Next time I want to come during the day and play with the dogs too.
