Today I visited a café that's become famous in the Seongsu-dong and Seoul Forest neighborhood for its stylish space and unusual menu — Seongsu's monochrome café, Iridescent!

Iridescent's opening hours and the walk from Ttukseom Station
Iridescent is open every day from 10:00 to 22:00. It's pet-friendly and takes group bookings. This Seoul Forest café is a 4-minute walk from Exit 8 of Ttukseom Station.

Iridescent by day and by night in Seongsu
The name itself is appealing — iridescent means a color that shifts depending on the angle you view it from. During the day, the open folding-door windows let in natural light and the energy of the Seongsu alleys, while after sunset, cozy indirect lighting and a curated soundtrack turn the space into a hip, moody lounge.

Walking in, the floor is finished in dark gray brick tile, which could easily read as cold, but warm wood furniture is mixed in among the black furniture and gray walls, giving the space a sleek yet cozy feel at the same time.

Seating at Iridescent for laptop work and studying
There's a table at the center of Iridescent that's great for laptop work, good for group meetings or workshops, while the window-side and wall lounge seats have black leather sofas and ergonomic wood chairs that are comfortable to sit in — and the spacing between seats is generous enough that you're not disturbed by the table next to you, so you can really enjoy your own time.

The whole wall facing the alley is made up of open folding-door windows, so there's zero sense of being closed in — and when the weather's nice, they open it right up, giving you the feeling of sitting on an outdoor terrace while you zone out looking at the view.

Interior details that make Iridescent one of Seoul's cooler cafés
A large built-in wood speaker panel acts as the anchor object of the space, and leafy plants placed around the speaker and along the bar table add life to the modern black interior. The bar seating is a smooth curved counter that shows off a rough concrete texture, giving it a modern yet luxe feel.

What goes into the drinks at Iridescent
Alongside the citrus perilla smoothie that went viral on TV and social media, they pair familiar Korean ingredients — sesame oil, perilla leaf, pepper, seasonal herbs — with their coffee and drink bases. Instead of relying on store-bought syrups or processed bases, they juice fresh fruit and roast nuts in-house, handling a wide range of herbs and spices with real care.

Desserts on the menu at Iridescent
- Pound cake (yuzu lemon / dark choco)
- S'more brookie
- Croissant crookie
- Pepper tiramisu
- Matcha Basque cheesecake
- Basque cheesecake

The two coffee beans Iridescent brews
The Special Blend is a crowd-pleaser with a nutty flavor and a heavy body — the roasted nut notes balance out a bittersweetness like dark chocolate, and with low acidity and good balance, it works really well in lattes too.
Happiness Decaf (+₩1,000) is for anyone who wants to enjoy coffee flavor without the caffeine load. It cuts down the flatness typical of decaf and brings out the bean's clean, natural flavor, so it drinks smooth and easy.

Iridescent's full drinks menu
- Mujinjang Carrot Ade / Citrus Perilla Smoothie / Iridescent Latte
- Cinnamon Grapefruit Granita / Yuzu Basil Granita / Summer Berry
- "Loves You Like Mandu" Latte / "Try This" Sushi Latte / Bakbokja Iced Tea
- Choco Berry Cream Latte / Espresso / Americano / Café Latte

- Cappuccino / Vanilla Bean Latte / Einspänner / Salty Cream Mocha
- Cream Choco Latte / "Chestnut Gala-tte" / Hojicha Milk Tea
- Apple Rosehip / Ade (Lemon / Grapefruit / Blackberry) / Tea (Lemon / Grapefruit)
- Pearl Jasmine / Maldives / Masala Chai / Peppermint

How the americano and croissant crookie taste
Iridescent's americano opens with the nuttiness of roasted nuts and the sweet depth of dark chocolate — no burnt note at all, and the roasting aroma is genuinely luxurious. One sip and there's a smooth body coating your mouth, with a nutty flavor and no sourness — this is genuinely a great coffee spot.

It's a dessert where a whole chocolate chip cookie is baked right onto the surface of a flaky croissant — the outside shatters crisply while you can still taste the buttery richness of the croissant underneath.

If you're looking for a hip, great-atmosphere café in Seongsu, I recommend Seoul's monochrome café, Iridescent!
