Ikkjujeokku, a Hanam BBQ restaurant

The outdoor charcoal BBQ atmosphere at Ikkjujeokku

I found a charcoal BBQ spot near Seoul where you can get that camping vibe without going far at all!!🙌

It's Ikkjujeokku (이것도 꾸워먹고 저것도 꾸워먹고), aka Ikkjujeokku, in Hanam 😋 I was so happy to discover a place like this so close to Seoul that I'm writing this up quickly 🤩🤩

Ikkjujeokku's storefront and signage

What kind of BBQ restaurant is Ikkjujeokku in Gamil-dong, Hanam?

At Ikkjujeokku you can pick your seating style — outdoor charcoal, indoor charcoal hall, or griddle hall — and enjoy Jeju pork.

They light the charcoal for you and even allow outside food, so you can bring meat, shellfish, or whatever else and grill it freely. It's apparently a place with lots of repeat customers already in the know 🤩 A bit annoying that I only just found out, but I'll be coming back a lot from now on.

Ikkjujeokku's parking lot and entrance around 5pm

The moment it hit 5pm sharp, people started pouring in and the parking lot filled up fast — you could really feel that this is a popular spot. Reservations seem essential on weekends especially.

Outdoor charcoal or griddle hall: where to sit at Ikkjujeokku

The outdoor space is set up like a campsite for charcoal grilling, so rain or shine, you can enjoy it worry-free 👍 It seems great for family groups or private gatherings of any kind.

Inside, both the griddle hall and the charcoal hall are available. It's a cool, comfortable space with the AC running on hot days, and there were quite a lot of table seats.

Jeju black pork and white pork belly/pork belly/neck all at ₩5,900 per 100g — such a good price to find this close to Seoul, I was thrilled.

What comes in the 2-person set

We went with the 2-person set menu. It's white pork belly 200g, white pork neck 200g, and jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) 200g — a combo where you get meat and seafood together.

There's also a wide range of side dishes you can add on, like Jeju pork kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), water or spicy cold noodles, and steamed egg or snail ssamjang (dipping paste)!

Griddle and basic table setup at Ikkjujeokku

Galchi sokjeot is the highlight: the table sauce lineup

Right in the center of the table, alongside the griddle, comes a lineup of sauces perfect for eating with the meat — house-made ssamjang, galchi sokjeot (salted hairtail guts), Maldon salt, and wasabi.

As I'll mention again below, this restaurant's galchi sokjeot was a total highlight. It plays a role similar to Jeju's myeoljeot (salted anchovy) — eating it with the meat really boosts the savory flavor.

Ikkjujeokku's self-serve corner and lettuce bar

How good is the self-serve wrap vegetable bar?

Everything here is self-serve, so at the self-serve corner you'll find the basic sauces along with scallion salad, kimchi, scissors, and tongs, all ready to go. Take as much as you want (though it's best to make several trips and only take what you'll eat).

There's also a lettuce/leafy greens corner, and honestly the quality was much better and fresher than at most dedicated ssam restaurants. Lettuce, perilla leaves, kale, mustard greens, red chard, all neatly trimmed — the kind of place where the greens alone feel worth it.

Grilling the Jeju pork belly and pork neck

Plate of raw Jeju white pork belly and pork neck

While we were off exploring the self-serve bar, the meat and side dishes arrived!

Bean sprouts and bracken fern served alongside the meat

Along with the Jeju pork belly and neck, and the jjukkumi, they also gave us bean sprouts and bracken fern, great for stir-frying together.

Once the griddle looked properly heated, you just put the meat on. The heat is quite strong, so medium-low works fine.

Being real Jeju pork, it's cut nice and thick, so you grill it front and back, and once more on each side.

Wrap it up with Ikkjujeokku's signature house ssamjang and galchi sokjeot, and for a moment you're teleported straight to Jeju.

The jjukkumi: chilled, never frozen, in a house sauce

And finally, we stir-fry the jjukkumi.

It's chilled, not frozen, jjukkumi, neatly cleaned and marinated in a signature sauce — such a tasty-looking visual!

The griddle was already hot so it cooked up quickly.

Jjukkumi and meat wrapped in lettuce leaves

Good wrapped in lettuce, and even better dipped in the signature sauce!! It's fairly spicy, so we also ordered steamed egg partway through.

Steamed egg puffed up like a pudding

The steamed egg came out fluffy and pudding-like, in a generous portion. Went really well with the spicy food!

Since this was my first visit, I only tried the meat sold here this time, but next time I'll bring along a whole haul of meat and seafood of my own. That's it for Ikkjujeokku, a Hanam favorite!
