In short
Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch is a Korean pork and beef BBQ restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley of Songpa, Seoul, a 7–10 minute walk from Jamsil Station and Songpanaru Station. Went to Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch for a Korean BBQ dinner near Seokchon Lake, and the matcha-minari Shrek Galbi was something special.

I heard there was matcha-minari galbi in the restaurant-packed neighborhood of Bangi-dong, so I went to check out Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch.

They serve hanwoo beef and hanu pork as well as raw fish and a variety of meal menus, so it's literally a mountain-and-sea BBQ dining spot where you can enjoy everything in one place.

Staff grill the meat for you here, which makes for a really comfortable meal 👍🏻 and there are private rooms too, so I hear it's popular with people looking for a gathering or company dinner spot.

What we ordered at Yukmong and what it cost
So, out of all that, here's what we picked, drumroll please
- ✔ [Limited] Shrek Galbi, 500g for two, ₩49,900
- ✔ Grilled rib-belly pork, 150g, ₩18,000
- ✔ Ilpum doenjang stew, ₩8,000
- ✔ Yukmong water naengmyeon (cold noodles), ₩9,000
- ✔ Rice bowls x2, ₩2,000
Before the mains came out, let me show you the table setting first!

Yukmong's side dishes and dipping sauces
A variety of side dishes and sauces
They even had japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and seasoned crab, both of which I love haha. Yukmong's side dishes are made with seasonal ingredients.

There was a house-made fish tamarind sauce inspired by Southeast Asian flavors, Yukmong's ssamjang mixed with pickled radish for extra texture, an onion sauce made with a renowned galbi master, British Maldon salt, non-spicy Japanese fresh wasabi that's directly imported, and Yukmong's pickled ginger made by curing yuzu and grinding even the peel.
Personally I like tasting a bunch of different things, so it was fun mixing and matching haha.
How does the limited-edition Shrek Galbi with matcha and minari taste?

First up, the one I was most looking forward to
[Limited] Shrek Galbi
Yukmong's signature matcha-minari galbi, first introduced at their Yongsan and Hongdae branches
It's rib meat from the best-quality cut of female pigs raised in a clean-air region, scored and coated in a special sauce made with matcha, minari (water dropwort), and basil — a galbi you can only get at Yukmong.
At first the combo of matcha, minari and basil with meat seemed a bit unfamiliar and curious, but once I tried it, it worked way better than I expected 😚

The subtle matcha flavor plus the fragrant minari on the rib meat make it definitely different from your usual seasoned galbi!! 🌿 I was worried I might not get to try it since it's a limited menu, so I'm so glad I did,, haha
Rib pork belly 150g, grilled at the table by Yukmong staff
Next up, grilled rib-belly pork
Galbi-samgyeop (rib-belly pork)
Top 1% selected hanu pork, the belly section around the rib bone
Since it really is the belly portion attached around the rib bone, the meat itself was thick and bursting with juice.

Since the staff grilled it for us, we could eat it at the exact best moment — the outside golden brown while the inside stayed moist, letting us really taste that savory pork flavor.
Finishing with ilpum doenjang stew and Yukmong cold water naengmyeon
When you keep eating meat, you start craving something with broth, right (shameless, I know)
heheh

So we ordered the ilpum doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) with rice too. It had that distinct nutty aroma of cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) and was a rich stew — perfect for eating with meat and rice.

We finished off with water naengmyeon. Yukmong's refreshing, clean cold noodles cleared away all the greasiness from the meat, so we could eat heartily right to the very end 😋
Is Yukmong a good group dinner spot near Seokchon Lake?
Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch has a large dining space and even private rooms, so it would be a great choice when looking for a Korean BBQ group dinner spot near Seokchon Lake! I especially liked that there's a wide variety of meats and that staff grill everything for you, so you can just focus on eating.
The Shrek Galbi we had this time isn't a meat dish you see often, so it left an even bigger impression on me haha.
If you're looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant near Seokchon Lake or in the Bangi-dong food alley that also has good vibes, give Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch a try 🤎💚
