Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun: a Cheonggyecheon bakery café on a weekend morning
Around 10am on a weekend, before heading to Kyobo Bookstore in Gwanghwamun, I stopped by Lemangdoré near my place. Just a few steps away is Cheonggyecheon stream! On weekdays this neighborhood is busy with people, but when I visited on a weekend morning it was quiet and relaxed, which I loved.

Bakery showcase, gift sets and goods at Lemangdoré
The display case had a variety of pretty breads made with all sorts of ingredients, so it was fun just to look.

Every single one had beautiful shape and color, and each bread felt like it had its own personality, so I was excited from the moment of choosing. Rather than ordinary breads, there were lots of items using unusual ingredients and combinations, which made the bakery feel extra special — pretty to look at and promising to taste.

There were gift sets too, and the packaging was so pretty it would make a great present.

There were also various cute little goods on display, like socks and tumblers.

Three floors of seating — where should you sit?
The store is spacious, spanning up to the third floor, so it felt roomy and comfortable. The seating was fairly generous too, which made it good for meeting up with several people, or for sitting alone with a laptop to get work done.

Each floor has a slightly different mood, so it was nice being able to pick the spot you wanted. Thanks to the generous space, it didn't feel stuffy even if you stayed a long time — a comfortable place to relax.

The Fritz Hansen furniture floor
Various pieces of Fritz Hansen furniture were tastefully arranged throughout the space, so it was fun to look around. Each chair and table stood out in design while still blending naturally with the whole space, giving it a sophisticated feel.

It didn't feel like furniture on simple display — I could actually see how the pieces work in a real space, which I liked even more, and the clean yet warm atmosphere was impressive. If you're into furniture and interiors, it's a great place to take your time and look around.

Four things I ordered at Lemangdoré
Today's order was: white cream latte, financier, original butter scone, and cardamom bun.

White cream latte
For coffee, I ordered the white cream latte. I was curious since it's made with white chocolate, and it was definitely different from a regular latte — sweet and smooth.
The gentle sweetness that's characteristic of white chocolate blended with the coffee, so it was easy to enjoy like a dessert, and it paired well with the breads. Especially on a day like this, when I was eating several bakery items together, it was nice that the coffee felt like a soft accompaniment rather than being too strong.

What does the cardamom bun taste like?
And the thing that caught my eye most that day was the cardamom bun. As you can see in the photo, the layers were so vivid it caught my attention right away. It looked less like an ordinary bread and more like a dessert, and eating it, the texture was really impressive too.
My first bite, I thought, this tastes like ginger! Turns out cardamom is a premium spice with a ginger-like flavor. That spice aroma gave it a different charm from the usual sweet cinnamon-style breads. The scent rose gently and blended with the buttery flavor, giving it a luxurious feel.
The outside had a crisp, flaky texture while the inside was soft, so the texture changed with every bite, which I loved. What was sprinkled on top was sweet sugar, and its sweetness paired well with the cardamom's aroma.
The cardamom bun in particular felt less like a simply sweet bread and more like something made with real thought put into the combination of aroma and texture. I think I understood a bit why people say Lemangdoré's breads feel high-end.
Overall, what I felt eating through everything was that Lemangdoré's bakery seems to have been made with a lot of research put into the bread. The crisp-outside, soft-inside texture came through well, and elements like the buttery flavor, the spice aroma, and the sweetness of the sugar didn't feel separate — they blended together naturally.

Financier
The outside had a nutty, slightly crisp texture, while the inside was moist and soft, making for an interesting contrast. The buttery flavor rose gently and went especially well with coffee. Personally, I got the impression that Lemangdoré's bakery overall does a great job with that crisp-outside, soft-inside texture.
Original butter scone
I also picked my favorite, the original butter scone. Overall, the breads I had at Lemangdoré felt less about being simply sweet or bold in flavor, and more about care given to ingredients and texture. The scone, too, had a noticeable contrast between outside and inside texture, making it good to eat with coffee.
The buttery flavor came through gently and it was on the plain side, so if you like scones, it's a menu item to enjoy slowly with a warm coffee. There was sweet sugar sprinkled on top!
Final verdict on Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun
If you're looking for a place in Gwanghwamun to enjoy coffee and upscale bakery items calmly, rather than somewhere loud or crowded, this is worth a visit. That day I tried the white cream latte along with the financier, butter scone, and cardamom bun, and each item had a slightly different texture and flavor, so it was fun to pick and choose.
If you especially like bakery items you don't often come across, like the cardamom bun, I think you'd enjoy this place. Lemangdoré suited the relaxed weekend morning mood of Gwanghwamun well. Next time I'd like to try picking out some other breads one by one.
If you're looking for a bakery café with a nice atmosphere in Gwanghwamun, I'd recommend visiting on a relaxed weekend morning.
