Wangsimni café with a toddler after a Hanyang campus tour: Eojil In

I went on a campus tour of Hanyang University with my 17-month-old. We had gomtang (beef bone soup) for lunch, and for dessert we headed to Eojil In, a café near Hanyang University known for its cake. Eojil In is popular with Hanyang students, but it's also famous simply for having really good coffee and desserts.

Lately I've been doing university campus tours with my 17-month-old, and this time it was Hanyang University in Seoul. To really enjoy a campus tour, you've got to take good care of lunch and dessert too. After gomtang for lunch, we went to Eojil In, a Wangsimni café known for its desserts. Eojil In is about a 3-minute walk from Wangsimni Station, 7 minutes from Hanyang University Hospital, and sits right by the university's back gate.

A Hanyang University favorite: inside Eojil In's two floors

Eojil In, this Wangsimni café dessert shop, is something of a holy site for Hanyang University students, but thanks to its convenient location near the subway, all kinds of people drop by comfortably for all kinds of reasons. Since it's run by someone with over 20 years in the coffee industry, it goes well beyond a simple 'aesthetic café' — the coffee is genuinely high-level and the bakery lineup is top quality. Maybe that's why it's always full of people.

It's spread across the 1st and 2nd floors, and even on a weekday it was packed. It's honestly hard to find a café near Wangsimni Station with this kind of atmosphere and quality.

My baby is at the stage of loving stairs, so today too she was busy shuffling around on the steps, haha

Eojil In's bakery lineup and gift sets

Since a professional pâtissier does the baking, the dessert cakes are also top-notch. There are especially a lot of baked cookies, and plenty of cake varieties too. They also run a separate space in Wangsimni called Small Eojil In, dedicated purely to the bakery line, so the bread quality is consistently solid. The gift sets are popular too, with a steady stream of orders.

Café milk bowl: the easiest thing to share with a toddler

The milk bowl was actually the main reason I brought my baby to Eojil In in the first place. When I bring my kid to a café, my top priority is checking whether there's something she can eat or drink too. At Eojil In, there's a coffee drink topped with organic milk ice cream from Sangha Farm, Paul Bassett, or Baekmidang. It's an espresso shot with a big, generous scoop of ice cream on top — I could feed my baby just the ice cream part, and there's plenty of it.

Once the baby was fed, I got to unwind with an einspänner and Matilda choco cake. Eojil In's einspänner cream is chewy-sweet, and it's heavenly if you drink it in one long gulp.

The Matilda cake sponge was moist, and the cream had a subtle sweetness — the combination worked really well.

After coffee: a walk past Hanyang University Hospital and campus

After sugaring up with my baby, we made the rounds through Hanyang University Hospital and the campus too. A university hospital is always a place holding all of life's joys and sorrows, so it always softens my heart a little. There was even a warm moment where, as I stood at the bottom of some stairs with the stroller, a passing patient kindly offered to help lift it up together.
