Stopped by Starfield Hanam over the weekend and swung by O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang for an early dinner. It had been a while since I'd had nurungjitang (crispy rice soup) at a dedicated restaurant, and this place was way cleaner and bigger than I expected — felt like a solid spot for a family meal. The inside of O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch was much bigger and more comfortable than I expected. Tables are spaced generously — great vibe for group gatherings or family meals! Feels like a place you could comfortably bring your parents or older relatives to.

It was cool that a serving robot brought the basic side dishes. Anything you run out of, you can freely refill at the self-serve bar without feeling awkward about it. The side dishes were also neatly arranged, which boosted the whole meal experience.

I ordered the seafood abalone nurungjitang together with chili shrimp, and the portions were more generous than expected, with great visuals too — I ended up snapping photos before eating 👍 I liked that this combo let me enjoy a hearty health-boosting dish alongside classic Chinese-style cooking.

A staff member poured the sauce right over the rice crust in front of us, and that sizzle really got my appetite going. It came in a stone pot so it stayed hot the whole time, and the broth was rich and deep. Best of all, the abalone was bigger and heartier than I expected, and it was loaded with plenty of seafood and vegetables — plenty filling for a proper meal 👍

Chili shrimp: plump and lightly sweet

A bit different from the chili shrimp you'd get at a typical Chinese restaurant. The color is lighter, but the shrimp are really plump and the batter was super crispy. The sauce wasn't overly intense, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down, with a subtle sweetness and lingering umami. Eating it, I realized chili shrimp can be this delicious even without being overly bold in flavor.
