Signature photo of Seongsu café Childish's salted taiyaki

I went to Childish, famous for Seongsu-dong taiyaki (fish-shaped bread), and got to enjoy signature menu items like salted taiyaki and Taiwanese-style mango bingsu (shaved ice dessert)!

Where Childish is in Seongsu, and its opening hours

Retro-style interior of Childish's second floor

Seongsu-dong taiyaki spot Childish has such a strong retro vibe inside! It's way more spacious than it looks from outside — when I visited there was even a group there.

What's on the menu at Childish

Childish salted taiyaki menu board
Menu board listing types of salted taiyaki

A place where salted bread becomes a dish! Childish sells all kinds of salted taiyaki — salted taiyaki, bacon potato sweet-potato pizza, mammoth chewy salted taiyaki, and more!

Salted taiyaki freshly grilled in-store

They grill it fresh in-store when you order — not the street taiyaki you eat in the cold winter, but a fusion-style version enjoyed indoors! Curious? Haha

The signature coffees are the playing-with-fire cream coffee and choco latte / espresso and Americano, latte, vanilla latte, matcha latte, yakult slush, iced tea, milk / tangerine ginger, yuzu peach green, strawberry tulsi — so many drinks to choose from! Not sure what to get? Try the signature popular set — the CHD Set Menu!

Salted bread: ₩2,500

All of Childish's salted bread is made with rice flour, 100% pure fat unsalted butter, and low-gluten rice flour, so it's extra chewy and easy to digest!

Bite-sized mini plain salted bread

Mini plain salted bread, 900 won each with a 3-piece minimum

Mini plain salted bread: ₩900 each

Childish's popular salted bread made bite-sized so it's gone in one mouthful! You have to buy at least 3, but since they're mini they're easy to eat without feeling guilty haha

Salted bread X taiyaki topped with butter

Salted bread X taiyaki, 4,500 won

Salted bread X taiyaki: ₩4,500

Rice flour, 100% pure fat butter, low gluten! This is Childish's proud signature menu — cold butter placed on top of warm taiyaki reminded me of ang-butter (red bean paste with butter)!

Butter melting over salted taiyaki
Red bean filling inside salted taiyaki

As the butter melts, its sweetness seeps into the crispy taiyaki — the slightly salty bread and sweet red bean flavor blend together, and the crispy-outside-chewy-inside texture was especially charming!

Tall stack of mammoth chewy salted taiyaki

Mammoth chewy salted taiyaki, 7,000 won

Mammoth chewy salted taiyaki: ₩7,000

A meeting of mugwort rice cake, chewy rice cake, ang-butter, and salted taiyaki! The menu board says something like 'eat it in one bite and get another one free?' — but it's so tall, I wonder if anyone actually manages it in one bite haha

Mammoth salted taiyaki with mugwort and chewy rice cake

Between the salted taiyaki layers there's chewy mugwort rice cake, chewy rice cake, and plenty of my favorite red bean paste!! If you visit Seongsu-dong taiyaki spot Childish when you're hungry, try this menu! ^_^

Four drinks at Childish: taste and prices

Childish's yakult slush

Yakult slush: ₩5,000

It says 'it's a yakult slush, but it's not a secret that there's no yakult in it' 🤭 — but I swear I tasted yakult while drinking it? Haha Great for cooling down in summer!

Playing-with-fire choco latte topped with marshmallow

Playing-with-fire choco latte: ₩6,900

A rich, sweet choco latte topped with a big marshmallow — perfect for a sweet sugar refill! ^_^

Americano paired with salted bread

Americano: ₩4,500

Pairing the salty salted bread with an Americano makes for the perfect brunch time!

Warm latte with latte art

Latte: ₩5,000

The warm latte comes with pretty latte art, so it's even more elegant to enjoy.

Taiwanese-style mango bingsu and Filipino ube bingsu

Taiwanese-style shaved mango bingsu piled high with mango

Seongsu-dong's one and only Taiwanese-style mango bingsu: ₩22,900

Taiwanese-style shaved mango bingsu, said to taste even better than the original in Taiwan! Since I'd just been to Taiwan this spring, I was curious and ordered it — the portion was seriously huge!

Made by freezing 100% milk with no condensed milk, so it has a clean, full milk flavor! Piled high with sweet mango — I couldn't stop eating it! So good, right? Haha

Filipino ube bingsu: ₩20,900

An ube bingsu developed directly in the Philippines! House-made milk ice, ube jelly! An authentic Filipino taste!!

Purple Filipino ube bingsu
Ube bingsu topped with ube jelly and nuts

This bingsu adds purple ube (purple yam) to the traditional Filipino halo-halo — the gentle sweetness unique to ube, the nutty vanilla aroma, and the chewy ube jelly, plus nutty nuts on top, let me fall for this unique bingsu's charm!

Two bingsu menus at Seongsu-dong taiyaki spot Childish! I highly recommend a visit!
