Munsan, Paju 2am café with strawberry latte and fire pit: On the Rail

On the Rail, located near Imjingang Station in Munsan-eup, Paju.

We came out to Paju for a trip and after checking into the hotel, looked around for something nearby to do. Turns out there's a late-night café open until 2am close by, so off we went for dessert and photos!

Arriving at On the Rail after 10pm: is this Paju late-night café busy?

Paju's roads don't have many streetlights or cars, so the drive to the café felt a bit spooky, and I wasn't sure there'd be many customers this late. But walking in — whoa~ true to its reputation as a big Paju café, the place was packed with people @@

By the time we left past 10pm it had thinned out a bit, so we quickly snapped some photos haha

On the Rail's menu and what's left on the bakery shelves late at night

Coffee / lattes / signature drinks / ades / teas / smoothies / even kids' drinks — a wide variety on the menu, and

on one side, rows of delicious-looking breads on display

Since we came late, there weren't as many kinds left, which was a bit disappointing, but

there were still plenty of breads that caught our eye, so we took our time browsing and picking ♬

There was also a pretty display case, so I took a photo and looked to see what was inside — turns out it wasn't decor, it was cookies 😂 Is it even allowed for a cookie case to be this cute 🤭

How do the strawberry latte, einspänner and elligator bread taste?

While we were looking around, our order came out: strawberry latte (₩7,500) / einspänner (₩7,500) / elligator (₩5,000)

We grabbed seats in front of the atmospheric photo zone for some mood shots ><

First, my husband's signature einspänner! He can't drink coffee, so he just tried the cream on top — super smooth and rich, so good♥ It even had 'ON THE RAIL' written on top, exactly my taste, and I could see why it's a signature item 😘

Next, my strawberry latte 🍓

Stirred it well with the straw to mix in the strawberry pieces

and sipped away happily 😚 Loaded with strawberry chunks and sweet — kids would love this too~

There were plenty of breads perfect for a bread lover, but we'd already stuffed ourselves at Gomé Square with my in-laws before coming here, so I thought about skipping bread altogether. Still, it felt like a waste to visit a bakery café and not eat any, so I picked the elligator since it keeps well for the next day. Just tried one piece — loaded with nuts on top, nutty and delicious, and I almost went for a second piece but held back..ha

On the Rail's outdoor space and railway view are prettier after dark

After tasting a bit of the drinks and bread, we went outside to look around +_+

There are pretty photo zones scattered throughout, and with the lights on at night the vibe was even better ><

Also, as the café's name suggests, a real train actually passes right next to it — if you time it with the train schedule, you can get photos with the train in the background, which is great 👍

There are outdoor tables scattered around too, so on a nice day like this it's great to sit outside and enjoy the view

and nice for a stroll after your drink too 😊

The ₩20,000 fire pit set at On the Rail, 8pm to 2am

Another great thing about On the Rail being an outdoor café is the campfire experience~ Available between 8pm and 2am, ₩20,000 gets you marshmallows + jjondeugi (chewy rice snack) + aurora powder + firewood, all included

Plenty of seating too, so it seems perfect for couples on a date or families coming together 😆

There's also a hut-like space you can use

and tables on the outdoor 2nd floor too, though for safety reasons it's a no-kids-zone, so adults must accompany — just so you know※

Is On the Rail in Munsan, Paju worth a second visit?

This was my first time visiting a late-night outdoor café open until the early hours, and I really liked On the Rail's atmosphere and how prettily it was decorated. It'd probably feel completely different during the day, so I'd love to stop by again next time I'm in Paju :)
