Tender five-layer bossam set at Dangsan's Cheongun bossam restaurant

In short

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is a Korean restaurant near Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, serving bossam (boiled pork wraps) and dongjuk clam kalguksu (clam knife-cut noodles). Two friends shared the medium five-layer bossam set at Cheongun Bossam and picked the tray mak guksu (cold buckwheat noodles) option; because the pork is boiled as whole gabrisal (pork jowl), the thick slices stayed tender and easy to chew, and with dried radish, wrap vegetables and the noodles the two were completely full. For a filling, tender bossam dinner near Dangsan Station, Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is worth a visit.

Today's post is about dinner at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch. I was craving something hearty and Korean that day, so we ordered the pork belly bossam set — and the bossam here is genuinely tender.

Tender pork boiled from whole pork jowl

And I don't mean 'tender-ish.' I actually told my friend, "I could eat this even on the first day after getting braces." Turns out they don't use regular pork belly — they boil whole pork jowl instead.

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch! I was looking for dinner near Dangsan Station and really wanted bossam, so my friend and I came together. Great accessibility since it's so close to the station. Besides bossam, they're also known for kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), so it works well for a proper meal or for drinks in the evening.

Indoor seats and the outdoor yajang-style patio at Cheongun Bossam

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch has a somewhat unique layout. There's indoor seating inside, and it connects straight through to an outdoor patio-style area. Maybe because the weather's been warming up a bit, plenty of people were sitting outside when I visited. Sitting out there with bossam and a drink on a cool evening sounds really nice...

I had a lot of bags that day so I sat comfortably indoors. Here's the indoor vibe! Overall it felt like a comfortable place to eat.

Cheongun Bossam is named for its bossam, but I heard the kalguksu is quite famous too. They use fresh dongjuk (surf clams) generously, so it's popular for lunch, and in the evening people order it as a drinking snack or hangover cure. If you're looking for kalguksu near Dangsan Station, keep the dongjuk kalguksu in mind! I was curious too, but I was way too full from the bossam that day, sadly.

What we ordered: medium five-layer bossam set 4 with tray mak guksu

What I ordered that day was the medium (中) pork belly bossam set 4. For the set's noodle option, I picked mak guksu. Since it was just the two of us, medium size!

Side dishes served with the pork belly bossam set

The side dishes came out first. You know how you end up nibbling on sides while waiting for the main dish? Well, the sides here were already delicious, haha. That's when my expectations started rising...

And then, finally, the bossam arrived! At first glance I wondered if it would be enough for two, or maybe a bit short. But once we started eating, not at all...

Thick slices of medium-sized pork belly bossam

How tender is bossam boiled from whole pork jowl?

The pork belly bossam at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is sliced thick and generously, so a few pieces in and you're already surprisingly full. We ended up completely stuffed, haha. And it's genuinely tender. Cheongun Bossam boils whole pork jowl instead of regular pork belly, which apparently makes the texture much softer. It wasn't just marketing talk — I was convinced the moment I took a bite.

When bossam is tough or dry, you get tired of it after a few pieces, but here it was thick and still not tiring at all to chew.

Dried radish and wrap vegetables with the bossam

And the dried radish (mumallaengi) served alongside! Putting a piece right on top of the bossam is so good. At first we mostly ate this way, working through the meat with this combo, haha.

Dried radish served to top the bossam

Napa cabbage and lettuce also come out so you can wrap the meat. The meat matters, but if the wrap vegetables aren't fresh you barely touch them, right? Here the vegetables were fresh, so we kept wrapping until the end.

Meat on lettuce or cabbage, dried radish added, one bite :) This is how bossam should be eaten...

Adding the tray mak guksu halfway through the meal

Once we'd properly enjoyed the bossam on its own, it was time for the mak guksu to enter!

Eating bossam alone versus with mak guksu is a totally different experience. I prefer eating the meat and dried radish combo fully first, then bringing in the noodles partway through, haha.

And then... wrapping bossam and mak guksu together in one bite!!! How could this combo not be delicious, haha. After eating just meat for a while, adding the noodles kept things interesting all the way to the end.

Is the medium size enough for two people?

The medium pork belly bossam set was just right for two people. At first I thought it might be a little short, but by the time we finished, we were completely full. The meat wasn't thin — each piece was thick — so it was way more filling than expected.

If we'd had a bit more room, I would've wanted to try the dongjuk kalguksu too... but I genuinely couldn't eat another bite, sadly. They say it's made with plenty of fresh clams, so next time I might come back for lunch just for the kalguksu.

And if you visit in the evening, the outdoor seats look tempting too. Sitting on the patio on a nice day with bossam and a drink... just imagining it sounds great, haha.

Verdict: a filling bossam dinner near Dangsan Station

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is a place best described as "we ate really, really well." Thanks to the whole pork jowl, the meat was far more tender than expected, we wrapped it with dried radish and vegetables, and finished it off with mak guksu — a proper meal for two, haha.

Meal for two at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

If you're looking for bossam near Dangsan Station, this place is worth a try! Next time I want to try the kalguksu too, and most of all — apparently in winter they serve an oyster and bossam combo, which I'd love to come back for. If you've been searching for kalguksu or dinner near Dangsan Station, keep this in mind too. A meal of well-boiled bossam and mak guksu that left us happily, completely full :)
