What kind of pot rice restaurant is Solsot? Gamameshi, reimagined
Apparently Solsot isn't traditional Korean-style pot rice, but a fusion Japanese brand reinterpreting gamameshi, the Japanese pot rice dish. That's why the pot rice uses ingredients common in gamameshi, like steak and sea bream scallops.

Every table has a tablet, so ordering is easy.

Inside Solsot Gwangalli: wood interiors and a fish tank
Solsot Gwangalli has tables for 2-4 people, and I liked how spaced out the tables were.

The tables and chairs are all wood, giving it a calm feel. Pretty aesthetic interior haha. There's a fish tank in the restaurant, so we spent some time watching the fish before our food arrived 🐠 Lots of fish, easy on the eyes too.
Just a heads up on the country-of-origin labeling~!

There's also an Asahi draft beer machine off to the side. Draft beer would've been so good, but I held off since it was daytime 🥲

What comes with a Solsot pot rice set meal
The pot rice comes neatly arranged on a wooden tray as a full set. Along with the main pot rice, each person gets an empty bowl for the rice, a small pot of nurungji broth, miso soybean paste soup, salad, side dishes (kimchi, jeotgal/salted seafood, etc.), and sauce.

The salad, kimchi, seed jeotgal, and miso soup are the same no matter which pot rice you order, but the side dishes vary a bit depending on the type of pot rice. Seems like they pair sauces and sides to match each dish!
If you need more side dishes or anything else, you can just request it right on the tablet — super convenient 👍
How to eat Solsot pot rice in 4 steps
Opening the lid reveals such an appetizing pot rice ㅠㅠ When it arrives, they explain how to eat it.
- Mix the pot rice well, then scoop into your bowl
- Add as much nurungji as you'd like into the pot
- Pour in the broth
- Close the lid

After setting all this up, you enjoy the pot rice first, then finish with the nurungji haha.

Boneless hairtail pot rice, 17,900 won
The boneless hairtail pot rice is piled with thick hairtail, chopped green onion, and sesame seeds. I love hairtail but often skip it because of the bones — here it's boneless! That's exactly why this was the first dish I picked haha.
Seaweed comes as a side dish too, and topping it with rice, boneless hairtail, and seed jeotgal was seriously irresistible... a real treat.
Steak pot rice, 17,900 won
The steak pot rice is topped with steak, egg yolk, and plenty of chopped green onion.

Steak and pot rice together felt like a bit of an unusual combo. The meat wasn't chewy at all and had a clean flavor. The steak pot rice comes with a separate sauce — adding a little and mixing it in makes it even tastier.

Pork bracken pot rice, 14,900 won
The pork bracken pot rice is loaded with pork, bracken fern, and chopped green onion. The pork and bracken paired really well, and the pork had no gamey smell, wasn't chewy, and was just delicious.
Finishing with nurungji (scorched rice) broth
The nurungji time I'd been looking forward to 🍚 Instead of plain water, they pour in broth, giving it a rich savory flavor. It's a different taste from the nurungji you'd expect, but it's the kind of flavor everyone can agree on! We finished the pot rice down to the nurungji, completely ㅎㅎㅎ

We each ordered a different pot rice we wanted and got to taste each other's too, and every single one was so good ~ㅠㅠ If you're craving a good meal in Gwangalli or thinking of a warm, tidy full spread, I recommend Solsot ❤️
