Braised mackerel banchan and grilled cheese at Suwon BBQ Olheun Gogi

When you're looking for a barbecue spot or a group dinner place near Mangpo Station, there are plenty of candidates but it's actually hard to pick just one. I had the same dilemma when planning this gathering, but I ended up at Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch, a Mangpo Station restaurant with private rooms where the staff even grill the meat for you! Here's my honest review!

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch: location, hours and parking

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch is near Mangpo Station, on the 1st floor of 20 Yeongtong-ro 218beon-gil, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si. It's close enough to the station that public transit access was easy, which made it an easy pick for our gathering.

The restaurant stays open until 3 AM, so it's also great for enjoying a late night out.

Parking availability matters a lot when choosing a group dinner spot, and there was enough room in front of the restaurant that anyone driving would find it convenient!

Rooms are assigned on a first-come basis, so I'd recommend booking ahead!

What the restaurant looks like and how big the private rooms are

The Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch space had a spacious, pleasant atmosphere.

Even a bit past the weekday dinner rush, every seat was full — this is already a famous spot, it seems.

Most of all, the generous room space made this a perfect Mangpo Station spot for group dinners, family gatherings, or club meetups.

Olheun Gogi has rooms for 12-14 people and a large room for 30.

Ordering was simple with a tablet right at the table.

We ordered the Olheun Pork Set, and the portion was just right for three adult women. It's a best-menu collection with premium-grade Korean pork platter + Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef tartare) + grilled cheese + steamed egg!

The side dishes: braised mackerel and garlic-sesame oil ssamjang

Olheun Gogi's side dishes came out in a wide variety — pickles, myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), scallion kimchi, white kimchi, fresh kimchi, and salted anchovy relish. I'm the type who loves mixing different combinations when I'm at a barbecue place, so I really liked that even the side dishes came in such variety.

Interestingly, the ssamjang (dipping sauce) wasn't just plain ssamjang — they added seasoned garlic and sesame oil into it.

And I was pleasantly surprised to see braised mackerel show up as a basic side dish — haven't had that in a while.

Staff grill the pork from start to finish

The best part of Olheun Gogi was that the staff grilled the meat for us completely, from start to finish.

Honestly, when you go to a barbecue place with a group, who's going to grill the meat is always a subtle issue haha. But we just got to sit and eat, so no one had to miss out on the conversation while stuck holding the tongs! Haha

The meat quality at Olheun Gogi was really good!

The moment I put a piece in my mouth, the juices burst out, and there was a subtle smoky aroma that really brought out the natural flavor.

From white kimchi with wasabi to myeongi namul, we tried so many different combinations and enjoyed it all the way to the end.

Grilled cheese, Korean beef yukhoe and steamed egg

The grilled cheese included in the Olheun Pork Set was an unexpected highlight. I'd never tried cheese with pork before, so honestly I wasn't sure it would work well before eating it.

But cheese grilled golden in the pork fat, eaten together with samgyeopsal (pork belly), doubled the savory richness — I kept reaching for more haha.

And having the yukhoe included in the set to snack on in between was a nice palate cleanser.

The set menu's meat portion wasn't lacking at all, and with all the sides on top, we ended up completely full.

The steamed egg's fluffiness was especially good! You know that feeling when steamed egg isn't watered down too much... haha.

It was also great that the staff grilled everything just right, so the meat stayed moist instead of getting tough.

Meat quality, staff-grilled service, private rooms, and parking — Olheun Gogi, a Mangpo Station restaurant, has everything you need for a group dinner spot. The juicy meat and grilled cheese combo especially were delicious enough that I'd order them again next time!
