Paju ssambap restaurant, squid bibim-ssam set: Simhaksan Deulkkot
In short
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (rice-and-greens wrap) Korean restaurant on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi, near Simhaksan mountain and a short drive from Paju Outlet. On a weekday lunch the writer ordered the deuljeongsik set — stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang and stone-pot rice — and piled on wrap greens from the self-serve bar for gangdoenjang wraps and squid bibim-ssam. The meal opens with pumpkin porridge and closes with nurungji (scorched rice) and ice cream, so Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap suits anyone who loves Korean home-style food.

The weather was so nice I wanted to get out somewhere! I headed to Deulkkot Ssambap near Simhaksan for lunch. It's a great stop after a walk around Simhaksan, and it's close to Paju Outlet too, so it's a solid pick if you're searching for a good ssambap restaurant near Paju Outlet.

Even though we came on a weekday lunch, it was pretty crowded. Ssambap really is a dish everyone, young and old, can enjoy comfortably — I saw plenty of families having a meal together.
Parking and the dining room at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap
Deulkkot Ssambap has parking spaces right in front, so parking was easy, and the interior was bigger than I expected, with group seating available too.

There's parking right in front of the restaurant, so we parked with no hassle and walked in.

The interior was more spacious than I expected, with group seating for several people at once. It looked like a good spot for a family outing or a meal with parents.

Seeing so many tables filled even on a weekday lunch, it seems like this is a popular spot for people dining near Simhaksan or Paju Outlet!
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap menu: why we ordered the deuljeongsik set
Deulkkot Ssambap's signature dishes are the deuljeongsik and kkotjeongsik sets, and we ordered the deuljeongsik. It comes with stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste dip), and stone-pot rice.

The signature menu items are deuljeongsik and kkotjeongsik. There are also add-ons like grilled mackerel, grilled Atka mackerel, and potato pancake that would pair nicely with the set. We went with deuljeongsik that day.

The deuljeongsik set includes stir-fried pork + stir-fried squid + doenjang stew + gangdoenjang + stone-pot rice. On top of that, you get a variety of basic side dishes and wrap greens, so the whole spread is pretty generous.
The self-serve bar: all the wrap greens you want
The self-serve bar at Deulkkot Ssambap has wrap greens and basic side dishes ready to go, so you can take as much as you like. There's also a microwave and old-fashioned snacks set out.

One thing I really liked about Deulkkot Ssambap was the self-serve bar. When you go to a ssambap place, you've got to eat plenty of wrap greens, right? The bar had a wide variety of greens, so I could take as much as I wanted. If the basic side dishes ran low, I could grab more from the bar too, which was convenient.
There was also a microwave, and old-fashioned snacks off to one side. It was fun grabbing one before or after the meal.

They were also running a Naver review event — write a review and get a ₩1,000 lottery ticket, which was a fun little touch.
Starting the set with soft, nutty pumpkin porridge
The deuljeongsik at Deulkkot Ssambap starts with pumpkin porridge. After that, the main dishes, around 7 basic side dishes, a salad, and doenjang stew all arrive together.

The first thing to arrive was pumpkin porridge! Before diving into the meal proper, I had some warm pumpkin porridge — soft and savory, it settled my stomach nicely.

A little while later, the main dishes and side dishes all arrived at once, and the table got really full. There were about 7 basic side dishes alone, plus a salad and doenjang stew — it really felt like a proper home-cooked spread!
The side dishes weren't overly seasoned or strong — they tasted comfortable, like something you'd eat at home.
Gangdoenjang and wrap greens alone are worth the trip
What was especially good at Deulkkot Ssambap was the gangdoenjang. Just putting gangdoenjang on a cabbage leaf and eating it was so tasty that I wrapped up several without any meat at all.

One thing I especially enjoyed here was the gangdoenjang. I love wrap greens, so I grabbed a bunch of different vegetables, and just adding a little gangdoenjang on a cabbage leaf tasted amazing. The crisp, fresh texture of the greens combined with the salty, savory gangdoenjang made me keep reaching for more. It's the kind of flavor that has you wrapping ssam after ssam even with no meat at all! If you're a fan of ssambap restaurants near Paju Outlet, I think this self-serve bar and gangdoenjang combo will be right up your alley.
Spicy stir-fried squid with big, meaty pieces
The deuljeongsik at Deulkkot Ssambap also comes with stir-fried squid alongside the stir-fried pork. The squid pieces are big and chunky, and the seasoning leans spicy.

The deuljeongsik comes with both stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid. The squid pieces were big and chunky, so the texture was great too, and the seasoning leaned spicy!

It's tasty on its own, but I mixed the stir-fried squid into my rice and wrapped it up in wrap greens. Eating spicy stir-fried squid, rice, and fresh greens all in one bite was seriously addictive! When it got a bit too spicy, alternating with other side dishes or the doenjang stew made a great combination.
The ssambap classic: stir-fried pork in a lettuce wrap
My favorite combination at Deulkkot Ssambap was stir-fried pork with a lettuce wrap, plus a little gangdoenjang on top. Since you can keep grabbing wrap greens from the self-serve bar, you end up wrapping a ssam for every single bite of pork.

And here's my absolute favorite combination! Stir-fried pork, lettuce wrap. I put stir-fried pork on a wrap green, added a little gangdoenjang, and took a big bite. Wrap greens with stir-fried pork is a combination that's hard to get wrong. Since you can grab as much fresh veggies as you want, I ended up wrapping a ssam for every single piece of pork. If you're someone who normally eats a lot of vegetables, I think you'll be even more satisfied.
Stone-pot rice, doenjang stew and nurungji to finish
At Deulkkot Ssambap, the rice comes not as a regular bowl but in a stone pot. After scooping out the rice, you can finish the meal with the nurungji (scorched rice) left behind.
A spoonful of hot stone-pot rice with savory doenjang stew alone could make you polish off a whole bowl! With stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, and gangdoenjang on top, the rice almost wasn't enough.
The other joy of stone-pot rice is, of course, the nurungji at the end. After scooping out the rice, the leftover crust turns into nurungji to finish the meal, warming and filling up my stomach. From wrap greens to stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, and nurungji — it really felt like a full, proper meal!
Free ice cream after the meal at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap
Deulkkot Ssambap also has ice cream available after the meal. After the spicy stir-fried squid, it cooled my mouth right down.

After eating my fill, I noticed ice cream on the way out. The stir-fried squid was a bit spicy for me, so having cool ice cream at the end completely refreshed my mouth! Starting the meal with pumpkin porridge and finishing with nurungji and ice cream made the whole thing feel like a proper course meal.
Is Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap worth it for a Paju ssambap lunch?
I visited Deulkkot Ssambap while looking for a lunch spot near Simhaksan. The deuljeongsik set, which lets you have both stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid at once, was hearty, and being able to grab as much wrap greens as I wanted from the self-serve bar was especially great.
Gangdoenjang alone with wrap greens was delicious, the stir-fried pork worked great as a lettuce wrap, and the stir-fried squid was tasty mixed into rice and wrapped — every dish could be enjoyed in a different way, and with the stone-pot rice, doenjang stew, and nurungji to finish it off!! I think it'll be a great fit for anyone who loves Korean food. If you're looking for somewhere to eat after a walk around Simhaksan, or searching for a good ssambap restaurant near Paju Outlet, I'd recommend enjoying a hearty spread of ssambap here.
