Cake café near Gwanggyojungang Station, Suwon: peach slice, Café Diaz

Work's gotten a bit busier lately, and by the time I clock out I feel like I've used up a whole day's worth of energy. But today was one of those days I was craving something extra sweet! Specifically, a slice of cream cake piled high with fruit and soft whipped cream.

A good slice of cake felt like it would round off the day perfectly, and since I was going to eat one anyway, I wanted a cake where I could actually taste the fruit, not just a generic slice. While looking for somewhere to pick one up on my way home, I found Café Diaz, a Gwanggyo cake spot — and it happened to be on B1 of Galleria Gwanggyo, so I stopped by straight after work.

Where is Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo, and is B1 easy to find?

Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is on the basement floor of Galleria Gwanggyo. I parked in the underground lot and came up, and since it's on the same floor as the food court and grocery section, the store wasn't hard to find at all. It's a good stop while shopping, and just as convenient for grabbing a Gwanggyo cake to take home on the way from work, like I did.

The store itself doesn't have its own café seating, but there's a spot on B1 where you can eat right away, so it'd be nice to enjoy it as a dessert alongside other food.

They also sell coffee and drinks, so pairing one with your cake would be even better.

What fruit cakes are in the showcase on a weekday evening?

I visited on a weekday evening and worried the cakes might be mostly sold out, but the moment I saw the showcase, I realized I'd worried for nothing, haha.

From peach cream cake to fruit cream cake to the fig cake that's been catching my eye a lot lately — there were slices of course, but also whole cakes piled high with fruit, and it was fun just browsing through them one by one.

What really caught my eye from in front of the showcase was that the fruit wasn't just a few decorative slices on top — it completely covered the cake.

According to the in-store signage, they use fresh fruit rather than frozen, and 100% dairy whipped cream. You can probably tell from the photos too — every cake was so generously loaded with fruit that I spent a good while deciding which one to get.

There was a wide range of whole cakes prepared too, with reservation info posted separately. If you're looking for a fruit-loaded Gwanggyo cake for a birthday or other special occasion, the whole cakes are worth keeping an eye on.

Why the peach cream cake won out at Café Diaz

After browsing around, what caught my eye today was, in the end, the peach cream cake!

Big chunks of peach sat on soft-looking whipped cream, and it looked delicious just from the visual. I wanted to eat it right away, but today's plan was to enjoy dessert leisurely at home after work, so I carefully packed it up and headed home, haha.

How the peach cream cake tasted at home

Once I got home and took the packed cake out, it finally felt like the day was really over. One bite and a sweet peach scent spread through my mouth, with the soft cream blending in naturally.

What I especially liked was that it wasn't fruit coated in sweet syrup — the peach's own natural flavor and aroma came through as is. There was no sense of artificially added sweetness, so eating it with the cream felt fresh and clean.

Big chunks of peach were tucked between the layers of sponge too, so no matter where I bit into it, I got peach along with it. Even though it was just one slice, the fruit's presence was so strong it felt like eating a whole peach properly. The cream wasn't heavy or greasy either, so even eating it in the evening didn't feel like too much.

A sweet end to the commute home

Work's been busy lately, and there are a lot of days when I feel like I've used up all my energy by the time I clock out. But today, coming home and slowly enjoying a delicious slice of cake as my own little slice of time — that turned out to be its own small happiness.

What I wanted today wasn't just any sweet dessert, but a truly delicious cream cake — and after trying it myself, I think I get why people go to Café Diaz when they're craving a cake loaded with fruit.
