Hi Jaemdaeng-ee! I want to introduce a mulchong kalguksu (clam-and-mussel knife-cut noodle) specialist where I genuinely felt taken care of ˚₊‧꒰ා ₍ᐢ. ̫.ᐢ₎ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ From the neat table setting to the friendly explanations and the unique thoughtful menu items, this was a satisfying visit — let's go, go~
Where is Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, and where do you park?

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu sits near Bijeon-dong / Sosabeol. It's across from the Bijeon 2-dong post office, diagonal from the Nonghyup Hanaro Mart, on the left side of Sosabeol Church. Floors 2, 3, and 4 of the building are all spacious parking, so parking wasn't a worry (the entrance and exit are the same and the entry width is narrow, so be careful if you drive a large car!).

Is the hall big enough for groups and family meals?
What surprised me about Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu was just how big the restaurant is. It's clean and comfortable, and since it's spacious the tables have decent distance between them, so it's not noisy either. Perfect for group gatherings, family meals, and dates ♡

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu carries the story of noodles that began in the Goryeo era, and you can feel the story of learning from the old while creating a brand-new menu all around the interior.

What comes in the 38,000-won two-person set?
Seeing our Jaemdaeng-ppu, the owner recommended the 2-person set — and get this, it includes the signature mulchong kalguksu plus pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork and napa cabbage dumplings, all for just 38,000 won. Isn't that incredible value? This is what happiness in the 30,000-won range looks like (the set price already has a 2,000-won discount applied).
When you visit a restaurant for the first time, you want to try the signature dish but you're also curious about the others, right? And the combination between menu items matters too. But if you order the 2-person set, that worry is solved ★

Self-serve bar and dining with kids
The basic table setting is good enough that you almost don't need the self-serve bar, but it's stocked with kimchi, aged kimchi, pickles, pepper, salt, soy sauce, chili paste, extra broth, cheongyang chili on plates, aprons, kids' tableware, and more.

I also spotted a high chair. Later, when eating the kalguksu and fried rice, you can add broth or seasoning to your taste.
Ta-da, here's the full 2-person set once it all arrived — every dish is plated so neatly and prettily. Looking at it again, all of this for just around 30,000 won is such an excellent value setup. The golden tableware and table setting suit Korean food perfectly and would be great to bring your parents to.
From the moment I walked in, the staff's kindness stood out — among the most attentive I've experienced at any restaurant recently ᜊ(੭ ˊ ᵕˋ)੭ : ゚.+ Just like at a fine dining restaurant, they explained the character of each dish and the best way to enjoy it, which made the meal feel less like just eating and more like being invited to a thoughtfully prepared dining experience.
What do the napa cabbage dumplings taste like?

Side-dish dumplings at restaurants are usually the standard store-bought kind, right? Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu's napa cabbage dumplings were completely different. Instead of a flour wrapper, they're wrapped in napa cabbage, so the moment you bite in, the cabbage's juice blends with the meat juice beautifully. This was my first time having napa cabbage dumplings and they were so delicious — this well-being-style dumpling... sneaky good.
Pear-leaf herbal boiled pork with meljeot dipping sauce
Enter the pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork~ Apparently made by boiling grade-1 domestic pork belly. The secret sauce with pear leaf powder cuts through any gaminess, making it clean-tasting. The way they use a tea-light warmer so you can enjoy it warm down to the last piece really shows how much care they put into their guests — so sweet, this Bijeon-dong Korean restaurant gem, Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu ♡

I usually enjoy boiled pork with ssamjang (dipping sauce), but this melt jeot kept warm by the warmer was seriously delicious too. It went great with the clean-tasting boiled pork, and our Jaemdaeng liked it so much I ended up stacking two slices together to eat it (˶˃⤙˂˶)
How to eat mulchong kalguksu

It's shown on screen, but the owner also kindly and clearly explains in person how to enjoy the mulchong kalguksu best.

There's plenty of mussels and dongjuk clams inside. Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu uses ingredients sourced directly from domestic regions — the dongjuk clams come from Gochang, Jeollabuk-do, and are said to be excellent natural tonics for fatigue recovery. Together with mussels from Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, which are responsible for the clean aftertaste, they build a deep broth.
Once the shellfish come to a boil, in go the noodles! The owner told us that if you put the noodles in from the start, the broth turns cloudy. So you add the noodles, wait through a 5-minute hourglass timer, and then enjoy the kalguksu. It felt like completing a fun little mission.

Bubbling away — uh oh, that visual~ Once the hourglass runs out, the kalguksu looks perfectly ready to eat and it tempted our Jaemdaeng right in — and the taste lived up to it. The broth is clean, the hand-cut noodles are chewy and addictive, so let the slurping begin..! The shellfish had no fishiness and great texture too. That's the moment you start thinking this broth would make an amazing fried rice!
Free fried rice and sikhye to finish

Fried rice, drumroll please — for Koreans who can't pass up fried rice, Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is thoughtful enough to serve it for free.. And they even use good Koshihikira rice for the fried rice. A place that puts care and good ingredients even into the parts you wouldn't notice — Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu really deserves praise for this!! >ᴗ<

Fry it, fry it! Sometimes you crave exactly this kind of fried rice after a shabu-shabu-style meal, right? It's not too intense in flavor, so it's a healthier fried rice with less guilt (these days there's plenty of tasty food and not enough exercise). Our Jaem made a heart shape out of the fried rice to send some love, and I happily accepted it by eating it up haha

They even finish things off with sikhye (sweet rice drink) ..♡
