Kalguksu by the Yulha Stream walking path in Jangyu: Seosan Dongjuk

In short

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Jangyu, Gimhae, right in front of the Yulha Stream walking path. Visiting with a child, the writer ordered two servings of dongjuk kalguksu at 9,000 won each, the oh-nak-sae seafood pancake at 15,000 won and a glass of makgeolli with the chili kept light, and got free rice and seaweed with the meal. On the way out, the free bottled water in the cooler outside Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu made it easy to walk the stream straight after, so a meal and a stroll fit into one family outing.

I went to Yulha Stream in Jangyu with my kid and ended up grabbing a meal nearby too. Since it was a walk day, I was looking for somewhere close to the stream, easy to park at, and with something my kid could eat too. This time I visited a Jangyu local favorite, Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu.

We had a great meal — kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) loaded with dongjuk (surf clams), plus a seafood pancake with squid, octopus, and shrimp. Best of all, it was so close to the Yulha Stream walking path that we could go straight for a walk right after eating. Parking was easy too, and after the meal we grabbed a cold free bottle of water sitting out front and walked the stream. Such a satisfying route that day, haha.

Where is Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu, and where do you park?

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu sits at 19 Deokjeong-ro 201beon-gil, 1st floor, Gimhae, Gyeongnam, right in front of the Yulha Stream walking path, open daily 10:00–21:00. On days I drive, taste matters but parking is the first thing I check. Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu has its own private lot with room for up to 16 cars.

We drove with our kid and parking was easy, which got the visit off to a good start. If the private lot fills up, there's roadside parking nearby too, so it seemed fine to visit by car. And since it's right by the Yulha Stream path, we didn't even need to move the car again — we just kept walking straight into our stroll after eating.

Inside Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu: tables for four and solo seats

Walking in, the place felt clean and pleasant overall, like the newly opened spot it is. The staff were bright and friendly too, which made it easy to bring a kid in and eat comfortably.

The tables weren't cramped, and besides the regular 4-top tables, there's also separate seating on the side for solo diners. Some people probably come in just for a bowl of kalguksu alone, so it was nice to see dedicated solo seats.

We went during peak weekend lunch hours, and while it was busy, we luckily got seated right away without waiting. The menu isn't complicated and the kalguksu comes out relatively fast, so table turnover felt quick too.

The menu at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is smaller than you'd expect.

  • Dongjuk Kalguksu (clam noodle soup) ₩9,000
  • Oh-nak-sae Seafood Pancake ₩15,000
  • Dongjuk Jogaetang (clam soup) ₩12,000

Makgeolli comes as a single glass for ₩1,500, or bottles of Jipyeong, Suro, or Bam makgeolli each for ₩4,000. A glass of makgeolli alongside the kalguksu and seafood pancake seemed like a great pairing, and I thought it was fun that they sell makgeolli by the glass too — a whole bottle is too much for someone who just wants one glass, haha, perfect for that. We ordered two bowls of dongjuk kalguksu, the oh-nak-sae seafood pancake, and one glass of makgeolli since we came with our kid.

Eating with a kid: ordering without chili, free rice and seaweed

What I loved about going with my kid was being able to order the kalguksu and pancake without chili. It's such a hassle picking out spicy chili pieces one by one when eating with a child. We ordered ours with just a little chili, portioned out enough for our kid, then added minced chili seasoning from the self-serve bar to the adults' bowls separately.

Being able to satisfy both a kid's and an adult's tastes at once was really convenient. And another thing that made me happy going with a kid — free rice refills! Sometimes kids get hungry quickly just eating noodles. I was planning to mix rice into the kalguksu broth for her, and it turned out the rice refill was free.

They also gave the kids seaweed separately, which was great for eating with rice.

A bowl of dongjuk kalguksu for ₩9,000 already felt reasonable, but with free rice on top, it felt even more practical visiting as a family. And you can't leave out the kimchi at a kalguksu place, haha.

No matter how good the kalguksu is, if the kimchi doesn't suit my taste it always feels like something's missing. The kimchi at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu isn't the mouth-numbing spicy style, and it went well with the noodles. You could take as much as you wanted from the self-serve bar!

How the dongjuk kalguksu tasted

Taking a bite of noodles with a piece of kimchi on top, that combo was so good as always. After a short wait the dongjuk kalguksu arrived — a big bowl packed full of clams, refreshing just to look at. It had a fairly simple makeup of clams, kalguksu noodles, and crown daisy greens.

Taking a spoonful of the broth first, it wasn't too salty or heavily seasoned — the clean, refreshing flavor from the clams really came through. The clams were plentiful too, and the ones I got were well-cleaned of sand, so I could enjoy them without any gritty texture.

Plentiful clams in the broth

They say they use fresh clams cleaned every morning, and it was almost a shame to just eat the noodles when fishing out the clams was half the fun. After portioning out my kid's serving, I added minced chili to the adults' bowls, which brought a spicy kick and a whole different flavor. Eating it a bit spicy suited my taste much better, haha.

Oh-nak-sae seafood pancake with chojang dipping sauce

And the oh-nak-sae seafood pancake we ordered alongside! True to its name, it's a seafood pancake with squid, octopus, and shrimp. Seafood pancakes can get a little greasy toward the middle if they're too thick, but this one had seafood spread evenly throughout, so every bite carried real seafood flavor.

My kid loves seafood too, so she kept switching back and forth between the pancake and the kalguksu, eating really well. We started off dipping it in soy sauce, but then a staff member mentioned it goes well with chojang (vinegared chili sauce) too, so I tried that.

Oh — with all that seafood in the pancake, the chojang actually worked surprisingly well, haha. After that I kept dipping it in chojang the whole time.

Free bottled water and a walk along Yulha Stream

On our way out after the meal, I noticed one more small nice touch. There was a cooler out front with cold free bottled water. It was pretty warm the day we visited, and since we planned to walk Yulha Stream with our kid, we grabbed a bottle on our way out.

After eating a solid meal, heading straight to Yulha Stream right out front for a slow walk with my kid while sipping cold water felt amazing. When going out with a kid, I much prefer being able to combine everything into one route rather than planning the meal and the walk separately. Parking, then kalguksu and seafood pancake, then straight into a walk along Yulha Stream — it was a route that worked really well for a weekend outing with a kid.

Is Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu worth it for a family outing?

This time we went to Yulha Stream with our kid and also stopped by the Jangyu local favorite Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu. Parking was easy, the place was clean, and being able to order without chili made it a great spot to eat kalguksu with a kid.

Sitting down for the kalguksu meal with the kid

We ate our fill of refreshing kalguksu loaded with clams and the oh-nak-sae seafood pancake with squid, octopus, and shrimp, plus free rice, seaweed for the kid, and water to grab on the way out — plenty of small satisfying details. Best of all, our family loved being able to walk straight along Yulha Stream right after eating.

With a full stomach, we took our time walking with our kid to help digest and chat along the way, haha. If you're looking for a kalguksu place to visit with a kid in Jangyu or Yulha, or somewhere to eat before or after a walk along Yulha Stream, hope this location and menu info helps you out :)

One-line review: Eating clam-filled, refreshing kalguksu, grabbing a free bottle of water, and walking Yulha Stream with my kid — a Jangyu local favorite great for enjoying a meal and a walk in one go.
