Seongsu tiramisu café in Seoul: peach and espresso tiramisu at Frolla

In short

Frolla is an Italian-style tiramisu and espresso café in Seongsu, Seoul. On a rainy weekday lunch the writer and her younger sister ordered the peach tiramisu (12,000 won), the espresso tiramisu (6,500 won) and an iced americano, and Frolla's kitschy interior and unusually moist tiramisu stood out most. For a Seongsu café that feels like a short trip to Italy, Frolla is worth the visit.

I was trying to figure out where to go for coffee after lunch when I remembered Frolla, a Seongsu café my younger sister had saved a while back saying she wanted to go. I heard it's famous for espresso, so on a rainy day I hurried over out of curiosity.

There's no dedicated parking lot and no parking support, so I'd recommend public transit. There's really nowhere to park in Seongsu... ㅠㅠ

What's the vibe inside Frolla in Seongsu?

Once you step inside, there are so many little props and cute details. Walking in for the first time, I thought it felt kitschy, and that the owner must have put a lot of thought into the interior.

It's an Italian-style café, but the vibe is different from other brunch cafés, and I liked that. The colorful, unique interior overall wasn't overwhelming — it actually felt like being on a trip. The music playing in the café was great too, which added to the mood.

We came on a rainy weekday lunch so it wasn't too crowded, but on weekends or nice-weather days there could be a wait, so I'd recommend coming with some time to spare.

Ambience inside Frolla

Tiramisu and coffee, ordered by QR code

Each table has a QR code for ordering, which was convenient. The menu itself was also really well made 👍🏻 Being able to browse the menu through the QR code and choose based on photos was genuinely great.

As an Italian-style café, they sell tiramisu, brunch, espresso, and more. There's a wide variety of espresso drinks too, so it's fun to pick and choose.

Since we'd just eaten lunch, we skipped the brunch menu and ordered the espresso tiramisu, peach tiramisu, and an iced americano.

For dessert there's tiramisu, and Frolla is genuinely a tiramisu spot worth visiting.

What does the peach tiramisu taste like?

Peach tiramisu, ₩12,000. Just looking at it, it seems delicious!!!! The peach on top of the tiramisu is sweet and incredibly soft too.

The tiramisu isn't too sweet, and you can really taste the mascarpone strongly, yet it's not heavy — it's clean somehow!? The coffee aroma inside pairs with the peach better than I expected, and the combination was really good. Honestly, writing this post right now makes me want tiramisu again.

How to eat the espresso tiramisu

Espresso tiramisu, ₩6,500. This is one of Frolla's popular menu items, and one bite tells you exactly why it's so popular!!

The strong, slightly bitter taste of espresso together with the mascarpone cream doubles the enjoyment.

  • Stick a savoiardi (ladyfinger) in. One savoiardi refill is available.
  • Wait until the espresso soaks in slightly.
  • Top it with mascarpone cheese cream and eat.

I watched my sister and copied how she ate it. I wanted to eat it elegantly somehow, but I just ended up being a regular messy eater... Still, once the espresso fully soaked into the savoiardi it got a bit moist, almost fluffy, and topping that with mascarpone cream was so delicious. It felt totally different from just eating regular tiramisu!?

The iced americano was, true to being an espresso spot, clean and nutty in the best way.

If you're looking for a great coffee spot or tiramisu spot in Seongsu, I highly recommend Frolla — the interior is unique and gives you that feeling of being on a trip 👍🏻👍🏻 Next time I revisit, I'm planning to try the brunch menu I missed, plus the apple mango soda or the bloody lemon.
